Re: YOLT - You Only Live TwiceObviously they did; people got drunk, started fighting etc.(Original post by S'Class)
I said in an earlier post that we do not need to know the reasons of a command in order to follow it - "We hear and we obey" (Al-Maidah, Verse 7). I gave the example of Alcohol and how people did not know about the harms of it back then, but they still had to follow that command. -
Re: YOLT - You Only Live TwiceYOLT? You Obviously Lack Originality.(Original post by jameslad)
I know many people on TSR are atheists but for those who follow an Abrahamic religion should watch this short clip

Re: YOLT - You Only Live TwiceWow you are an extremist.(Original post by Abdul.)
Listening to music is actually haram, what planet are you on if you dont know that? -
Re: YOLT - You Only Live TwiceNot only is that post hoc ergo propter hoc reasoning, it was obvious to even the ancient Greeks that alcohol made you drunk, encouraged obscene thoughts, made you do stupid things, etc. Arabs in the 7th century would have also known this.(Original post by S'Class)

It's a fantastically well put together video. I can't fault it on what it aims to do, it sets out with an objective and accomplishes it very well. I obviously think the premises the video is based on are false, though. I really hate the "it doesn't matter if you're a good person if you don't fully submit to God" standard it pushes. It purports an unhealthy view of oneself.Last edited by Hype en Ecosse; 22-06-2012 at 20:46. -
Re: YOLT - You Only Live TwiceFrom a religious point of view, it creates hypocrisy.(Original post by Ayshizzle)
Show me a disadvantage of learning a musical instrument?
You cannot listen to both the Quran and music and love them both. It's one or the other.
I'm sure many Muslims can testify to this. -
Re: YOLT - You Only Live TwicePretty sad really. Whatever floats your boat though.(Original post by S'Class)

I also find it odd that you backed up your reasoning of the teachings of the Quran with another quote from the Quran.
Circular reasoning is a religious man's best friend I guess. -
Re: YOLT - You Only Live TwiceDefine an extremist.(Original post by blueray)
Wow you are an extremist.
How could he be an extremist when he's following his religion?
Perhaps by your standards living in the west, he could be. Then again, if your Muslim, you need to straighten your priorities. -
Re: YOLT - You Only Live TwiceThat makes no sense... Are you implying you cannot love anything else but the Qur'an?(Original post by Reform)
From a religious point of view, it creates hypocrisy.
You cannot listen to both the Quran and music and love them both. It's one or the other.
I'm sure many Muslims can testify to this. -
Re: YOLT - You Only Live TwiceThe emboldened part is really the epitome of religious thought. Throw logic and evidence to the gutter in favour of unthinking servility and sycophancy. I guess for lazy people, not thinking is preferable.(Original post by S'Class)
"They ask you about wine and gambling. Say, "In them is great sin and [yet, some] benefit for people. But their sin is greater than their benefit." And they ask you what they should spend. Say, "The excess [beyond needs]." Thus Allah makes clear to you the verses [of revelation] that you might give thought." (Surah Baqarah, 219)
There may be some benefit, but it is obvious that the harms greatly outweigh it. I don't know if there was any research into the harms of alcohol when the Quran was revealed but I'm sure there was no where near as much knowledge as we have now regarding all the diseases and illnesses caused by it. So yes, if you are a Muslim and believe this is what Allah commanded you, you don't need any evidence. -

Re: YOLT - You Only Live TwiceThere's a difference between disliking a concept, and the truths therein. Just though I'd let you know.(Original post by janet9)
Wow, it's bad enough to think you have a totalitarian dictator watching over you who minds what you do and what you think and can even convict you of thought-crime. Seriously, which thinking person wishes to be a such a slave to an unchallengeable and tyrannical authority? Under total surveillance from before you are born, throughout your entire life, and then for all eternity in the so called afterlife. I can't understand why anyone wants to belive in such a ghastly fate. Does the Quran or the Bible offer you a way out such ownership? Clearly not, as the video just goes to indoctrinate the delusion that the destruction of your individuality only begins after death. What a truly evil video and a deep insult to our integrity as human beings. -
Re: YOLT - You Only Live TwiceAre you talking about the alcohol verse or this one? The former, I was showing another example of a command that has been shown to be for our own good. The latter, I'm simply explaining a part of faith in which we don't question God - this isn't something new, everyone knows this is part of religion.(Original post by Pinkhead)
Pretty sad really. Whatever floats your boat though.

Re: YOLT - You Only Live Twice
As a Muslim I find that video incredibly dull and boring, and just insulting to anyone's intelligence, religious or not.
"WHY ARE YOU LISTENING TO MUSIC??? YOU KNOW IT'S HARAM, PLEASE STOP!!!!"
"DESIRES WITH THE OPPOSITE SEX" caused his death... Omfg.
-.-
Seriously?
Seriously?
What an embarassment of a video.Last edited by planetearth; 22-06-2012 at 22:20. -
Re: YOLT - You Only Live TwiceTruths? Go on, go ahead and proceed to publish those iron-age oral commandments in a peer-reviewed scientific journal. When you can get the entire scientific community to say yes, that the natural order was suspended and that the jewish minx didn't tell a lie and it turned out that two nudists successfully did obtain dietary advice from a talking snake, AND upon collecting your Noble Prize, feel free get back to me.(Original post by InvertedLayman)
