Re: YOLT - You Only Live Twice*Nobel prize.(Original post by janet9)
Truths? Go on, go ahead and proceed to publish those iron-age oral commandments in a peer-reviewed scientific journal. When you can even get the entire scientific community to say yes, that the natural order was suspended and that the jewish minx didn't tell a lie, and upon collecting your Noble Prize, feel free get back to me.
Can I have a photograph of your "noble prize"? Also I hate it when people say "the scientific community" in defence of whatever they are supporting. Define "scientific community". Oh wait, you mean any "scientist" who is a scientist as classified by you. And who do you classify as a scientist? Anyone who doesn't quote "iron-age oral commandments"? That's a bummer, a lot of scientists quote Euclid, Aristotle, Ibn Sina et al.
Again, you may not believe it is true. My post was not intended to make you believe so, that is your own choice. But whatever is true, I mean "science" or anything else, is true weather you like it or not. If there were no God and that were the absolute truth, it doesn't matter how much I dislike it: That is still the truth.
Likewise, if God does exist, then that is the truth, no matter how much you dislike it.
Even if you are irreligious, it's stupid to say that something is not true because you do not like the sound of it. You can say you do not believe in it because of that fact, but there is a difference between belief and truth. Your belief can be true or it can be untrue. To claim your belief is true because another one isn't your fancy is absurd. -
Re: YOLT - You Only Live TwiceYou're right, you are absolutely right and I'm sorry. I am. I didn't mean or intend to have such a cold-tone, I just get so ... worked up when theists rub what they take on as faith, as fact, in the faces of others. I thought of you as the wrong type of person. I can't believe I typo'd Nobel with that remark considering its purpose...(Original post by InvertedLayman)

It's just that, I find there to be no reason to want to believe in a god/s and so I go against that which goes against science and reason. I'll quote Marcus Aurelius here: “Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones.” - that's what I live by, intrinsically. Cheers again.

Re: YOLT - You Only Live TwiceGood for you for deciding your own beliefs independently. For me a good religious person is someone who chose that religion themselves, even if their parents raised them to follow it.(Original post by janet9)

Re: YOLT - You Only Live TwiceIf you listen to music all the time, you're not going to want to listen to the Qur'an correct? If you listen to the Qur'an you wouldn't even want to approach music. Sure you may say you can listen to both but your love for one will be greater than the other.(Original post by Ayshizzle)
That makes no sense... Are you implying you cannot love anything else but the Qur'an?
I can provide hadiths, if you're interested.(Original post by blueray)
All the muslims I know listen to music, send me the quran quote saying you can't listen to music and that it is haram.
JazakAllah Khairun.(Original post by abdiz12)

This could be applied to absolutely anything btw...
For example,
If you read any other book but the Qur'an, why would you want to read the Qur'an?
If you listen to lectures/audiobooks, why would you want to listen to the Qur'an?
