Wearing a belt while lifting?
Ok so i've read that wearing a belt as a beginner when handling realtively light weights is counter-productive because it doesnt allow core muscles to stabilize you whilst lifting so you dont build these muscles.
In time, you get to a point where your core is developed but not developing at a fast enough rate i.e. in deadlift back will round. This is the case for me. I got to 140x4 on deadlift, but didnt do the 5th as my back was ridiculously rounded. For submaximal weights i wouldnt wear a belt, but is it now time to wear a belt when maxing? If not, when is it best to start this? I've seen a lot of "it depends on you" and "You will know when" kind of stuff, but that doesnt help much tbh -
Re: Wearing a belt while lifting?
I belt up on squats over about 75% of my max. Sometimes less, sometimes more. It all depends on the day.
I don't wear a belt when deadlifting as I can't get my air with one on.
I don't wear a belt with any of my assistance lifts. There really isn't any point. If your form sucks so bad that you need a belt to make your back feel better then you really need to re-evaluate the poundage you're throwing around. I do 45 degree rows with 130 but don't need a belt because my deadlift max (an exercise where I'm at risk of snapping some **** up if I'm retarded) is much higher. Same goes for good-mornings and other 'heavy' barbell assistance lifts.
