What social class are you? (Poll)
I thought it might be interesting to see which social class members of TSR think they belong to - so, what social class are you?
(If you don't know, have a look at this rough guide - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_...nd_stereotypes)Last edited by Aspiringlawstudent; 11-05-2012 at 04:19. -
Re: What social class are you? (Poll)
Middle class by wealth, parents/siblings professions and their total annual income. However, if we're talking racial stereotypes, then I'm guessing I'd be considered lower class.
EDIT: Wow. I genuinely don't know why I'm being negged. Is it because of the racial stereotypes? I actually studied this in Sociology when I was doing my GCSEs and my teacher (also Bengali) specifically said that we're considered lower class because of our race. Hence the reason I included it. Society today may be more tolerable to ethnic minorities, but statistics show that Bengali's are underachieving greatly (in terms of education, employment etc.) compared to other races.
19 negs (so far) and no replies? C'mon neggers. You can't leave me hanging here. Tell me what you're thinking.Last edited by Vixen47; 19-05-2012 at 13:27. -
Re: What social class are you? (Poll)
I'm not entirely sure. I have a fairly RP accent, I have a university education, studying for postgrad but I only work in a coffee shop... and recently came off benefits...
I dunno.... somewhere amongst the working class? I don't think my job level is sufficient enough to move me into middle class. But then again is it all about culture? Because then maybe I do fit into middle class. I dunno, it all seems too far-fetched to me.Last edited by Welsh_insomniac; 11-05-2012 at 08:58. -
Re: What social class are you? (Poll)
I accidentally ticked lower middle class when I meant to put just middle class. (#firstworldproblems :P) I'd guess that to be the most prevalent demographic on TSR as well. For some reason I always imagine other TSR'ers in families like the one in 'Keeping Up Appearances'.

The Wikipedia 'Middle middle class' description seems to fit best, except everyone in my family either had an Irish, American or Welsh accent. Definitely no received pronunciation here.
It's totally down to my parents though. With the job prospects of an Arts degree in this climate, I doubt this is a lifestyle I'll be able to sustain myself until a very long time.
I'd also say I dislike the whole idea of 'social class'. I suppose in politics it's necessary to have some degree of distinction, but I don't like the encouragement to make assumptions based on 'class'.

Re: What social class are you? (Poll)Err, there are only three.(Original post by PurpleMonkeyDishwasher)
Why do you have four divisions of middle class but only one of working class?
And because the middle class is generally regarded as being rather broad, whereas the working class is not. -
Re: What social class are you? (Poll)
my parents would be upper middle or upper, but like me hate the idea of classes.
Would rather be working class and happy, over some money hungry upper class.
If i was to have my own class system it would be how much each person would contribute to society
People like doctors, mechanics, posties, cleaners and such would all be together on top
And then people only care about money and putting themselves higher than overs would be on bottom
bit contradicting :')
