paramedic science, bachelors degree or foundation degree
hey everyone,
i am new to the student room.
i have a degree of bachelor of science in general nursing since september 2010.
i am currently working as a peri-operative nurse and i am volunteered with st johns ambulance.
Basically i want to become a paramedic via the university route because the NHS ambulance trust route seems impossible.
My main query is should i go the bachelor or foundation route.
Please help. -
Re: paramedic science, bachelors degree or foundation degree
You're eligible for registration with the HPC as a qualified paramedic with either qualification so in terms of employability I don't think it makes any difference!!
Some universities they give you the option of topping the foundation degree up to BSc level too I think. I am starting the foundation degree at Worcester this September, I already have a BSc so couldn't get any funding and two years is cheaper than three, also with courses two years or less I can get a career development loan to help pay tuition fees. As well as that loved the uni and it's close enough that I can live at home - so that was a factor too for me! I would go have a look around all the unis on their open days and ask lots of questions! Hope this helps a little bit! -
Re: paramedic science, bachelors degree or foundation degree
Some of the 2 year Foundation Degree / Diploma of Higher Education courses are funded so if you might struggle to self fund they might be a better option. At the end of the day as long as your on a recognised course it doesn't make masses of difference. Especially as you already have a BSc.

Re: paramedic science, bachelors degree or foundation degreeThey would probably want you to do specific modules anyway.(Original post by sirduckworth)
i think the 2 year option is a good choice.
but would it affect your ability to become an advanced paramedic later on, or is that totally based on practical experience.
Thanks for all the help so far.
