People on the internet
can be so cruel, opinionated, arrogant.
Seems sometimes I can't share a moderate opinion/ interest in a discussion on here without being blasted somewhat unreasonably or having a wannabe Einstein/Kafka-Demigod giving me a patronizing lecture?
I know I'm pointing out the obvious, but don't you think it's just a bit of a shame how people behave on the internet sometimes?

Re: People on the internetOh course, but this nice aspect can be completely trashed by the other group, which unfortunately, seems to be a rather large group at that.(Original post by GeorgetheAug)
On the other hands you do get some really lovely people who are otherwise shy and withdrawn. You have to look at both sides of it! -
Re: People on the internetthat's a shame. I'm sure more than half the problem is the whole idea of a mysterious avatar (or even worse a completely anonymous one) which allows people to make out whatever they want to be, and behave in such a horrid manner with no repercussions whatsoever.(Original post by Safiya122)
Formspring is this website were you're able to get annoymous messages and questions from viewers. I only had it for the sake of my friends and it resulted in hate messages from "annoymous people" in my year group. It's annoying and clearly trolling.. -
Re: People on the internetThe problem mainly stems from the fact that, with such a large number of people being connected, the probability of there being a discriminating difference in opinion approaches 100%, then sparks begin to fly.(Original post by Frey)

Then you do get people who are just aggressive and/or annoying for no real reason, who I pity and ignore. -
Re: People on the internetIs there no way of disabling anonymous messages? I recall there being something of the sort.(Original post by Safiya122)

Re: People on the internetI think you and I both had that problem on that stupid 'spending all your money on clothes rather than food' thread too. If you want to be a misanthrope, I think trying to engage with others en-masse on the internet is good way of going about it...(Original post by Jabberwox)
I posted a thread similar to this a while back. I know exactly what you mean

Re: People on the internetIt's not this forum in general, I think it would be the same on pretty much any forum, as this sort of behaviour seems to be pretty standard across the internet(Original post by Jacoti)
If you don't like this forum, you could always go to another with tighter moderation?

Re: People on the internetThere is, yes.(Original post by GeorgetheAug)

Re: People on the internet
It's the power you get when you're behind the computer screen. You have the nerve to say things that you wouldn't usually, and even since it's using keyboard, they probably thought about their response, deleted a few words, in other words, real thought went into their hurtful comment. Regarding people being anonymous, I just think it's pathetic. You think you're a bad ass just cause you're talking online? Waste of space

Re: People on the internetWhich is why I have my location viewable, pictures of me on here, my Facebook is loitering around here somewhere, as is my Last.FM.(Original post by stargirl63)

Needless to say, if I've got something to say I'll say it, and if people don't like it then that's not really my problem. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion at the end of the day, and whining about it just makes whoever's doing the whining look like they can't actually hold their own in an argument.
Granted, needless idiotic comments are something we can all do without, but you know you're getting into when you join a forum, so why bother going to the effort of complaining about it?
That's how I've always looked at it, anyway. -
Re: People on the internet
That's what happens in big general forums like these unfortunately. That's what happens in life also really - just that you can't easily form your own cliques and etc and ignore all the annoying people who don't agree with you.
Well, there is stuff like private chat I guess. Doesn't change the fact that your anger is valid though. Especially horrid when it's a person with enough charisma that you can't just ignore them also..
Sorry. I'm just too charismatic for my own good. I really do wish it weren't this way.. I've lost a lot because of it in fact. I wish, that I could just return to my youthful days and say whatever was on my mind with my old amigos without thinking too much of it, but I've destroyed too much with my legendary wit to allow me to do that.
I'm continually haunted by the conquests of my past.
I-I just wanted to have a little fun..!
