Scarborough campus accommodation
I have a conditional offer to do primary education at the University of Hull and I'm undecided on what accommodation to go into, I was thinking university managed houses as the halls seem pretty expensive for what they are.
Is anyone else considering or currently living in university managed accommodation that could help?

Re: Scarborough campus accommodation
Hiya
i'm currently in Aberdeen House in Scarborough, moving out in two weeks
I've loved living here. This is a 10 bed, four storey house right in the centre of town. It's pretty old and not every room is ensuite, but some rooms are huge, especially the three on the top floor.
Bradley Court is a bit different tbh, since it's only been around a few years and it's so massive. Here we've got ten rooms with eight people in them, a massive living room/dining area, decent if small kitchen, a utility room with a washing machine (no need for a laundrette thank god), a yard/smoking area round the back and the beach/town centre literally on your doorstep. My boyfriend lives up on south cliff at Continental Lodge and it's different again, more people and a much bigger house but a great atmosphere and closer to uni.
Bad things are obviously the walk up to uni in winter (but the buses are decent and in summer it's quite nice), the dodgy fire alarm and the way accommodation tend to just wander in whenever they like to fine you for stupid things like propping the fire doors open.
Hope you like wherever you pick

Re: Scarborough campus accommodation
Definitely go off-campus accommodation!! I'm currently at Grosvenor Crescent which is a 9 bed accommodation not that far from uni. The downsides are simply distance from uni in Winter, and occasional maintenance issues. Most off-campus accom are nice and unique and all have their own charm. Problems with Cayley Halls are mainly to do with the food being not worth the money but they are revamping the canteen over Summer. Also the washing machines there are vicious and tend to murder your delicate clothing... (so I'm told)
Anyway I'd strongly recommend off campus as I've never regretted it! -

Re: Scarborough campus accommodationWhen I was there, room 13 (the large room I was in) had a double bed, a large window, and a lot of room, I'm fairly certain it was a living room originally. One thing to note is that cable to connect the telly has never worked in that room. There was at least one other large room in the house, which only had a single bed, however it was also very large and bright. The house has a pretty nice kitchen, and a very comfortable living room. We connected a freeview box to the telly and would often watch telly together in the evenings. It was idyllic in my view.(Original post by adjay)
at accommodation at crown crescent what do large bedrooms include ? such as single/or double bed is it a decent size etc ? -
Re: Scarborough campus accommodation(Original post by sdh12345)
i got into the uni a few days ago and have never seen anny of the accommodation before, im looking for somthing close ish lots of people just to have fun. is that better on campus or off ??
Depends on how you prefer to live. When I lived in Halls (A Block at first, then moved across to F Block with the friends I'd made since then) there was a real sense of community and never a dull moment really. You're also broken down to living with people whom study the same subject as you, but if people leave or want to swap rooms it can be arranged with fair warning to the accommodation office. Please note, that on Campus accomodation is Catered, so if you don't want that Cayley is not for you.
Off Campus can add to a "communal family atmosphere" (or not, if you prefer) with the added addition of common rooms and are all self catered. You're best bet if you want to live near the campus is Continental Lodge or Bradley Court (about 10 mins walk) or Carlton/Crawford House (about 15/20).

Re: Scarborough campus accommodationAye, admittedly one of the few student houses I've never actually been in, but 2 of my friends from my BA years lived there in first year and it is known for it's liveliness. And if you like going out, some of Scarborough's most popular nightlife is literally 3 - 5 minutes walk up the road and round the corner from you(Original post by Annie7794)
I've been given a room in The George university managed accommodation, it looks lovely..and will be very lively with 32 people haha :')
