Re: MRes Cancer Biology at Imperial College London
Hi, gavinmetcalf Ive submitted my application for entry 2013 and am awaiting a decision from Imperial also for the MRes Cancer Biology course. Can I ask about your background and application? Ive been out of uni for three years, working in an NHS lab mainly dealing with cancer diagnosis and with a fair amount of additional study.
I have very luckily been offered very cheap accomodation in a house in Clapham.
I hope you are enjoying the course!

xHi, reading this thread, I am also curious to see how you two got on with PhD applications.(Original post by VENIVIDIVICI)

I've got an offer for an MRes in Ecology and Evolution next year at Imperial (different division of the life sciences department), and I was wondering if you could answer a few specific questions?
1. Does the department and your supervisors encourage MRes students to apply for PhD's at Imperial, or do most people apply elsewhere?
2. Have you taken part in anything run by the graduate school at Imperial? Was it useful? It looks very interesting to me, but as I'll be based at the Silwood campus in Berkshire, it would take about half a day for me to attend any seminars or workshops in S. Kensington. (On the other hand, a benefit of being at Silwood is £90pw accommodation!)
Thanks.Last edited by Tpx; 01-04-2013 at 16:32. -

PhD's yes it encourages internal candidates to apply - I have today been offered a CRUK PhD studentship at Imperial from October. I do think they like internal candidates as they know you, your research abilities, and your training is top notch thanks to the university training you during your MRes.
As for the second, I have a very poor attendance rate to seminars due to the amount of lab work that is expected within my rotations. So I couldn't comment.
Hope that's helped!
Gav
and congratulations!
I guess gavin you're currently doing this course right? I'm interested to know how the course is like for you so far.
