Re: History P1 and P2That is great! You did your 25th so much better than I did! I had to rush mine, too... I spent 55 minutes on the first and only 35 on the second question... but I figured I should since I knew the 6th question well.(Original post by Willez)
We did the exact same questions! For me, the WWII essay went something like this:
Treaties: Versailles (focused particularly on the war guilt clause), Locarno, Kellog-Briand Pact
Econ: Manchuria crisis, Abyssinia crisis, the Great Depression
Ideologies: Communism in the USSR vs. capitalism, fascism of Italy + perceived weakness of UK/France (failure of the Stresa Front)
I forgot all my historians, but I remembered the perspectives so I did manage to fit in some of that stuff with "certain schools of history argue that...".
My essay on question 25 was ****. I miscalculated how much time I had, messed up a date and had a very vague third paragraph + 1 sentence in my conclusion. Mentioned Yalta/Potsdam, Berlin blockade/airlift and wall in paragraph 1, Cuban crisis/Bay of Pigs in paragraph 2 and Truman Doctrine/Marshall Plan in paragraph 3. I essentially made the point that everything was about the build up of tension, although my second paragraph wasn't exactly on an origin so much so as a factor that contributed the continuation of distrust and tension.
Paper 1 was a godsend though.
And we had similar arguments for the 6th question! (: -
Re: History P1 and P2Actually, I spent 35 minutes on question 25 as well! Oh dear, haha. The 6th question really was great though, except I did spend 15 unnecessary minutes at the start of exam wondering how I should start the first sentence of my intro. Not the smartest thing to have done!(Original post by WLDL3)

Re: History P1 and P2Oh, don't worry, I suffer from the same "never too sure how to start an essay" syndrome.(Original post by Willez)

Yeah, but in all honesty, the 25th question was so iffy that I really didn't even know what to write. At first I contemplated taking Hitler or Stalin, but was like NAAAAAH then. :P

Re: History P1 and P2
I was so worried about Paper 2 all weekend, before looking here and seeing that most peoples essays have been similar to mine haha!
I did question 6 and 18, for 6 i did WWII,
Treaties: Versailles, touched on St.Germain-Mostly talked about how this helped Hitlers rise to power and gained him popularity.
Economy: Wall Street Crash, Great depression etc, Dawes plan (totally forgot about the Young plan), and the reparations
Ideology: Obviously again, Hitlers rise to power and how he appealed to the masses, Lebensraum, I put appeasement as an ideology and I thought it was wrong, but I've seen other people have now which has made me less worried
I didn't even think about communism until the end, so I quickly added a paragraph about the West using Germany as a buffer from the USSR.
All in all, I think my essay was a bit basic, but what do you guys think?? I am aiming for a lvl 6.
I used 3 historians (well, Churchill, Lloyd George and AJP Taylor quotes) for question 6, and none for question 18.
Thank you for any feedback!
Good luck everyone on paper 3 tomorrow!

Re: History P1 and P2Omg. I was soooooooooo worried about paper 2 all weekend as well. Spent most of my time stressing out about causes, practices and effects since you never know what kind of question to expect, which didn't help since I had a higher physics paper 3 exam on the same day as well in the morning. So when I saw the question on ww2/ww1, it was an amazing feeling. Thank you IB!!!!(Original post by Elouise94)

I think your structure's fine. I did appeasement as ideology as well, classed it as western ideology. Hope you get your six! :P -
Re: History P1 and P2Yeah I literally just panicked my whole way through both papers, even though the questions were really good! Yeah, I was hoping for a causes of WWII or WWI question!(Original post by johndoe04)

Aaaaah I'm so glad about that, I just wanted to put it in there somewhere, so I thought ideology was where it fitted most!
I hope you get what you wish as well! -
Re: History P1 and P2
I did Hitler social and economic policies and the Origins question on Germany. I was so hoping for a nice origins question but that was just mean. I still managed to write a response and I hope it went well. Paper 1 was a gift from heaven - LoN and paper 3 too! such a great paper.
Hoping for a 7 although i doubt it.
Anyone else do the same questions?
And im curious about the different route - the people who did communism in crisis. -
Re: History P1 and P2I did 25. (the origins of the Cold war) and 13. (rise to power of Mao + Hitler).(Original post by meittarn)

I did Communism in Crisis for Paper 1! What did you want to know?
-
Re: History P1 and P2
What did you write for the origins question?
I totally spanned out and thought they meant the berlin blockade but then i also mentioned the conferences
And communism in crisis - what time period do you focus on and what type of information do you learn? I heard you start studying from I think when Mao dies and I think thats really cool! Although i wouldn't be able to do a paper 1 on it, id rather an essay -
Re: History P1 and P2I did the same conclusion.... I did question 6 aswell... thought the paper was okay.... just really over panicyyy!!(Original post by beautiful-lion)
I did Mao and Hitler as well for q. 13 - it WAS a nice question (and none of the others looked nice!). And yeah, I came to the conclusion that they were important factors, but only in conjunction with the historical context and conditions and short term economic crises! -
Re: History P1 and P2I had to think about the 'treatment of Germany' question. I decided that the wartime conferences were about the treatment of Germany, the tensions causing and caused by US and USSR policies exacerbated the situation, and then the Berlin Blockade was the last straw. I argued that the Berlin Blockade was not a 'conflicting view about the treatment of Germany' though - more an aggressive move by Stalin in response to veiled US hostility. And then I also mentioned other factors like longterm ideological dispute, etc. I concluded that the conflicting views were only important to a limited extent, because they were made significant by the historical context of the times.(Original post by meittarn)

Paper 1 is cool
We do the power struggle after Mao's death and also Brezhnev/Gorbachev in Russia. It's the most recent part of history I've ever done (we stop in the 90s somewhere). I thought our paper was nice, though I didn't really put in much 'own knowledge' in Q4. Still, you can get a 7 without any own knowledge for the whole paper!
-
Re: History P1 and P2Yeah, Paper 3 was the problem(Original post by <3 aa-987)
I did the same conclusion.... I did question 6 aswell... thought the paper was okay.... just really over panicyyy!!

Re: History P1 and P2Thats true!! I hope you get the grade you want and that actually sounds really interesting! but again i'd rather it be a paper2/3 type of topic.(Original post by beautiful-lion)

Wow I like your interpertation/analysis for treatment of germany and your response. Im sure you'll score high!!

History is hard to discuss though - nobody puts the same thing, so it's quite unnerving listening to what everybody else put!
I am just SO glad the grade boundaries are so low. In my Paper 3 mock, I got 15/20 for one essay, 16/20 for another, then 5/20 for the third (ran out of time!) to make 36/60, and that was still a 6! -
Re: History P1 and P2My problem was just the questions. I revise Napoleon, Origins of French Revolution, October and February Revolutions. Not ONE of those came up!(Original post by <3 aa-987)
Definately...
Ran out of time :/ Felt to cry in the exam....
I just wished in paper 2 i did q13 first as it was my stronger point as i spent tooooooooo long on q6 and only had 35mins for the last one. Gutted and dissapointed...
I dont even want July 6 to come
Had to do Alexander II and III, Hitler and Mussolini Rise to Power (haven't studied Mussolini for two years!) and 'Why was Germany divided by 1949'. -

I revised collapse of communism and germany up till wwII soo much but nothing came up.
I thought about doing the Tsar one but ended up doing, Stalin's rise to power, Appeasement and Lenin's consolidation.... not great but ok :/ ... Lenin was good but too much to cover and write in 1 essay, appeasement was ok... and stalin's rise to power hadnt really revised but hope its half decent :/
