Re: Is lad culture a problem or just a laugh? We don't abuse them, we just take the piss a little.(Original post by SpongebobSquarepan)
I do mate, I just don't act like a ****er to other people. I respect other people, yet have a sense of humour not a sense of insomnia like mosyt LADS do.
I go footy go pubs with mates give them some stick, take some stick back. But I will never abuse members of the public I have never met before. -
Re: Is lad culture a problem or just a laugh?A few of my friends are doing sports science courses with a heavy bias on the science parts of the course. I do agree with the idea that there are too many university courses and too many people going to university. However I don't agree that there is a correlation with too many people going to university and a perceived "lad" culture. For you to say "these" people should be on apprenticeships etc etc. is just an arrogance on how you think of your self as "better". I also have friends doing apprenticeships and if you believe yourself to be "better" than these people I think you should jump off a massive ****ing bridge.(Original post by sconter)
how isnt sports coaching a valid degree? seems like it could potentially be a proper course. -
Re: Is lad culture a problem or just a laugh?Becuase you got bullied at school. FACT(Original post by M4LLY)

Re: Is lad culture a problem or just a laugh?
Someone said that the guys involved in this LAD culture "don't give a crap what people think of them".
That is so wrong.
We all know the type's of guys who are in lad culture. They're the small minded sheep, who are a little bit......dumb, to be honest. No offence. They all dress the same, they all do the same, they all take the piss out of anyone who does something different, they always hang in groups. And are completely different people when alone than when in a group together.
They're the insecure guys from school. Who have never had the guts to be who they truely want to be. They mask over taking the piss out of people or eachother by calling it "banter" when really it is releasing their true jelousy and insecurities over one another.
I feel sorry for these guys, because they're so trapped, and in fear of their own insecurities.
Poor LADS! -
Re: Is lad culture a problem or just a laugh?Oh yeah, just goes to prove you don't even know my history. What actually is your problem with lads then?(Original post by SpongebobSquarepan)
Becuase you got bullied at school. FACT -
Re: Is lad culture a problem or just a laugh?wut? pretty sure i said it was a valid course, mongoloid.(Original post by wilko1991)

however people are more intelligent than others, we are not the same. i am better suited to a degree, and others are better suited to an apprenticeship. its not arrogance, it is a fact. -
Re: Is lad culture a problem or just a laugh?Actually these types are the ones that can afford uni even as the fees go up. The 'lads' are generally the ones from moneyed backgrounds who will always get into uni because mummy and daddy will make it so.(Original post by prog2djent)
What happens when you try to get 50 percent of the school population into UNI,
eh?

And this.(Original post by Dux_Helvetica)
What a coincidence, I was just reading that article no more than an hour ago!
I agree with what you said. A bit of 'banter' in mild doses is okay but the university scene is the UK nowadays is pretty ridiculous. Also, what are those deadbeats studying? 'Sports Coaching' - how appropriate. University is just an excuse for them to go get pissed for a couple of years before reality kicks in.
By the way, Vice is great. I remember posting a thread about Vice a month or so ago and nobody replied
But hey, great thing about night clubs is that they are a specific location active at a specific time. I can avoid most dickheads this way.
I'll admit in first year I hit nights out pretty hard, and still go out once in a while but I'm an 'old man', no more.
I assume most 'lads' grow out of it, as it seems to be a cultural phenomenon of young blokes feeling like they got something to prove (even if it is faking not caring) and for the rest....well they are *******s. No hope there.
And let them have their sports coaching degrees or whatever, you get out of uni what you put in, and they have no bearing on your degree.
Edit: Also in response to the feminist stuff, there are such a thing as LADETTES.
Let's face it, lad culture isn't a male thing, there are just as many girls with a lack of interest in the finer things in life as guys.Last edited by Studentus-anonymous; 13-05-2012 at 11:45. -

Re: Is lad culture a problem or just a laugh? No bursaries though - its all well and good getting a loan but lets face it it isn't enough to live off. If your parents can't afford to support you at least a bit you are pretty ****ed.(Original post by sconter)

Re: Is lad culture a problem or just a laugh?im getting 3k a year in none repayable grant, and if i get into my 1st choce i get 3k bursary (2k pays off loan, 1k to my hand) ontop of maintainace loan (which is less than most peoples as i get a grant)(Original post by redferry)

Re: Is lad culture a problem or just a laugh? All I know is my Uni wont be offering any bursaries next year (which is a ridiculous idea, they seem to somehow think that reducing fees makes up for money to spend on living costs). Grants are another matter but as you said they usually reduce your loan amount, and they're often competitive.(Original post by sconter)

What you are getting is ridiculous though! 6k a year, you're going to be rolling in money. Not going to lie I'm a little bit jealous.
Which is your first choice uni, out of interest? -
Re: Is lad culture a problem or just a laugh?the total amount is 10k in the 1st year. 8k is for maintenance. my halls cost just over 4.5k i think.(Original post by redferry)

yea i will be getting alot. most unis have been told to increase their bursaries, im supprised ur uni is getting rid, seems pretty harsh/weird.
liverpool: The Liverpool Bursary scheme offers additional funds to support those within specific household income brackets for entry 2012/13.
