    Scraped a car, help?!
So, I was driving home from work today and scraped a (moving) car, and now I'm worrying. I'll give you an insight...

I started moving off to go behind the car that was approaching from my left. As I moved forward (slightly and very slowly) the car put his right indicator on at the last minute and cut across me, to turn right. I couldn't go anywhere and we scraped each other.

So, I got out of my car and the other driver got out of his. He looked at his car for scratches/scrapes/bumps, but he couldn't find anything, and I couldn't find anything on my car. We talked it over to come to a conclusion, shook hands and that was it. He drove off, and then I drove off.

I am slightly worried though because I noticed he took my registration number. (I took his as soon as I noticed, just incase). I mean, what if he gets home and finds something on his car and decides to report me? Will the police come around to my house? Will I get my insurance company phoning me up? etc

    Thank you,

The police won't come but he may decide to call his insurance company to claim. Don't panic, these things happen and that is what your insurance is there for!

Ok. What happens if he does go to insurance company though? Will they ring me up etc about detials or just sort it out themselves?

We didn't swap details or anything, but I suppose he and his insurance company can find me with my registration number plate.

He turned right, as I slowly moved off. It probably was my fault, but I thought he was going straight before he indicated late and cut across the right side of my car... if that makes sense.

I think as it was resolved at the scene you'll be fine. You didn't give him your insurance details did you anyway? And from the sounds of it, it's his fault. Just forget about it.

They will ring you up just to ask about the accident to inform you about what's going to happen etc. He could find you via the reg plate but being as he didn't take down your insurance company and name it sound slike it would be a lot of hassle for a scrape. (if its not down to the primer/metal)

I know from how he described it, its no wonder he didn't wanna exchange insurance details, it sounds like the other guy was in the wrong... When turning right and such, its your job to make sure its safe to do so, not the other drivers to stop and wait for him to turn.

I'm assuming you were at a T junction, and you were on the minor road? You haven't actually said. If that's the case and you were on your side of the road behind the give way line and he cut the corner it's his fault, no questions. If you were over you might be on shakier ground. Realistically though, even if he did try to claim against your insurance it would be your word against his (unless there are contactable witnesses). For such a minor claim it's really unlikely the insurers will bother to determine fault and instead just agree to settle the claim of their liability (I.e. your insurers cover your claim - none - and his insurer covers his claim). As you're not making a claim and his claim is against his insurance, not yours, your NCB won't be affected. That's if he makes a claim, which sounds pretty unlikely.
