Help!!! Ate something and feeling ill
Precoocked frozen prawns - says thaw for 8 hours on the pack and I just put them in the oven for 20 mins and ate them. I feel nausea and general pain in the stomach.
Will I be ok ?
What should I do ?

Re: Help!!! Ate something and feeling ill
How ill do you feel? If you actually feel like puking your guts out, do so, drink lots of water, don't take any meds because it's likely you'll puke them out before they do anything.
Main thing is try not to stress about it as stress will make it feel worse than it actually is. -
Re: Help!!! Ate something and feeling illNo thaw(Original post by puddledancer)
Did you put them straight into the oven or actually thaw them?
At 5 today, what is psychosomatic ?(Original post by Juno)
When did you eat them? Food poisoning doesn't show up that quickly. It's psychosomatic.
I am confused, should I drink a lot of water ? Anything I can do to help with digestion ? -
Re: Help!!! Ate something and feeling illPsychosomatic means it's all in your head. You haven't had enough time to actually be ill, so any symptoms you have are imaginary(Original post by member910132)
No thaw

Re: Help!!! Ate something and feeling ill
Do you still have the packet?
More often than not, frozen prawns are actually pre-cooked and all you are doing is heating them up. Check the packet. If you have got food poisoning you will have pretty rough vomiting and diarrhoea. If that does happen, try to drink squash, with sugars, or watered down fruit juice. You will be losing a lot of fluids and will need to replace them, lucozade or isotonic sports drink is pretty good.
Are you with housemates? If so, let one of them know you are feeling a bit ill or tell a parent, etc. Just so someone can check on you later. Don't worry, I doubt you are going to die lol, just to maybe bring you said fluids if you feel too rough to move.
Sip the drink, son't gulp as likely to make you chuck again.
In all honesty, I think you will be fine. It usually comes on pretty damn fast when it does come on. i.e. I feel sick, run to bathroom I am really sick.
Keep us updated, no pics though please. If you really do feel like you are very unwell and need advice, you could phone NHS Direct on 0845 4647. They are 24hr a day 7 days a week. Don't do anything stupid like going out and drinking alcohol now either. It won't kill said bacteria in your gut no matter what friends may tell you.
Good luck!Last edited by Loggah; 11-05-2012 at 23:34. Reason: Clarity of statement -

Is this number 0845 4646 just for general health issues ? -
Re: Help!!! Ate something and feeling ill
Sorry, when I said going to die I was exaggerating. I meant quite unwell. I have had food poisoning before and literally, I thought I was dying. How I didn't turn my digestive system inside out I don't know. I will edit the post to be more clear. Thank you for pointing that out. But, yes, food poisoning can be extremely dangerous which is why I also suggested letting a friend or family member know you are sick. NHS direct are also very good for advice, even if it is just a yes you need an ambulance type reassurance.
Good luck. -
Re: Help!!! Ate something and feeling illMe too, now I know ur safe and all lol! Bye.(Original post by member910132)
Going to bed now, there is no more nausea and I feel fine. Thanks to all for advice and support. -
Re: Help!!! Ate something and feeling ill
I thaw king prawns for half an hour tops in a bowl of water on the countertop. 8 hours is just covering their ass.
You shouldn't ring 999 for anything but life threatening emergencies, food poisoning in a healthy individual, not one of those conditions.
Treatment for common forms of food poisoning is drink lots of fluids with rehydration salts, get rest, let it pass. If blood starts coming out or severe dehydration sets in due to an inability to keep down water then it may be hospital time.
Probably just trapped wind anyhow.
