    Im dreading this exam

does anybody know what to write for the positioning of audience or their responses?
Audience positioning came up in the last exam

Take this example - Come dine with me
    -The audience are the observer
    - Audience are the seen as the 5th person
    - The voice over talks directly to the audience suggesting that the audience are put at a priority. Also the voice over is 'taking the mick' out of the guests and we get to hear that, which gives the audience authority.
    Audience responses -
    - The show has game show aspects
    - Audience may take offence to the comments.

I'll try and write up some more if you think they are useful

For visual codes are you just going to say what you see? and for techincal say angles?
No, it's a bit more complex than that:

    Visual Codes -
    -Clothing and physical appearance
    -Gesture and body language
    -Facial expressions
    -Setting
    -Use of colour
    - Any use of graphics

    Technical Codes -
    -Sound -Diegetic and non digetic
    -Any ambient noise
    -voice over
    -Music
-Shots - what range are the shots in?
    -Any camera movement
-Editing - The way scenes change from one to the next
    - the pace of the text - fast? slow?
    -Lighting
-Mise-en-scene - whats in the shot.

hi everyone im really struggling to get to grasps with the structure required when answering each question. In English i am taught a template which i simply insert the relevant information into, is this not the case for media.

    Nope.

Some examples are set by the exam center, but you don't have to use them if you don't want to.

Does anyone know any likely questions or anything to revise?! i haven't a clue, my teacher is never there and i have very basic notes. Would appreciate it a lot if someone replied!!
Hope your exam went okay! I had mine based on magazines last year! Was like 2-3 marks off a B.. didn't need to revise AS really.. Was fairly easy! A2 is harder.. Gotta revise 9 different media texts and all their productions, marketting, theories, audiences, and other things.. Should have a B for a level media hopefully

So yeah, hope yours went okay! and good luck!

It went okay! Was a bit stooped on the last question but I discussed teenage pregnancy and teenage relations as 1 issue (i used juno & submarine) then as my 2nd issue i used teenage violence and used kidulthood and kick ass!

The targeting question was simple kind of because i had done practice essays and basically memorised them! Talked about TOWIE, Kick ass and also mens health.

The first, second and third questions i wasn't so keen on because i didn't like how it was a documentary! so annoying, but some main points i talked about were images having fast cuts reflecting effect of drugs etc, archive footage and expert opinion etc etc

How did everyone else think it went? I finished at 3:20 and it was finishing at 4! So i just gazed around for a while... i think i write too fast considering I filled the whole booklet.. hahah

Re: MS1 media studies wjec 15th may 2012
I had a dream that it'd be a documentry and had told one of my friends. I wanted to laugh so hard when it came up.
For question 2c I only wrote one very detailed example of x-factor. Many people did more than one.. Am I likely to get marked down for this.
    I wrote 14 sides. . . and included everything I could remember.
I did Body image and poverty.
looking at ugly Betty and heat magazine.
and for poverty I used Slumdog millionaire and comic relief.
Starting to panic I didnt do enough, but everything was incredibly detailed.
    I'd really love an A, I don't know.
My target is a C.... but my coursework grade was a high B, so who knows...

blueghghghgafjaojp that was an okay paper tbh! only need 70 to be an A overall because my C/W was a highhhhhh grade!

    1. Documentary - wrote about the constant reminder about the different types of drugs there are, the audience feel as if drugs are all around them and how they influence the audience because of preferred readings etcccccc

    2a. Parents and British Audience

    b. Parents - use of parents and their opinions.. fact that it was probably shown after the watershed means that parents are allowed to watch it without children?

    c. I talked about technical codes and stereotypes and how they constructed readings for the audience

    3. Issues - Islamaphobia and teenagers!

After the panic at the start when it was a documentary rather than film or television like I was expecting, I thought it went okay.

Still don't really know what question 3 was asking, though. Was it how issues are represented, like the 2011 riots? Or the issues with representation? I wrote about both, so I probably scored half marks at best on that question.

2011 riots fall under 'event' rather than issue, but you could swing it that is rioting an issue. I'm not sure what you mean by issues with representation? We were supposed to look at how media texts represent certain issues in society today, not how representation can be an issue. But depending on how you wrote the answer, you might swing it.

I'm sure you did fine, anyway. It's only an AS level.

Oh gosh, you're right. I might as well just discount those thirty marks and hope that I did well enough in the rest of the paper to still get a decent grade.

Issues with representation as in, if all immigrants to the UK are represented in the media as scrounging off the state, for example, then this becomes an issue. I didn't even know what I was talking about, to be honest. I guess I'll just hope I get an examiner in a good mood!

True! I've got my A2 media exam next month, and I feel a lot more prepared for it, if I'm honest.
