    BBC Proms 2012!
Well I can't seem to find a thread for this year's season, so thought I might as well start one!

What tickets are people booking? Tbh there isn't much this year that takes my fancy, but definitely excited about the My Fair Lady prom

Got tickets for the NYO playing Turangalila, the Berlioz Requiem and Mahler 6. I'll go on the day to a few more of them - looking at Mozart Clarinet Concerto/Nielsen 5, Rite of Spring/Mahler 10, Mozart Flute Concerto/The Firebird, London Sinfonieta in Ligeti/Berio/Xenakis etc, Berg VC, Pierrot Lunaire, the Bach organ recitals.

I'm away for all of the early ones which is a shame, I would have liked to see Judas Maccabeus, Les Marteau and at least some of the Barenboim Beethoven cycle.

Wow, you've picked a lot! I'm away at the end of the Proms, so am missing Le nozze di Figaro, which is a shame :sadnod: Wanted to go with my mate. I've booked for My Fair Lady and Beethoven Symphonies 5 and 6. Was gonna book Beethoven 9 but figured my mum would want to watch the Olympics opening ceremony on TV instead

Tickets for £5 is an offer I'm going to take advantage of as much as possible (even if the programming leaves something to be desired). The only reason I could afford seated tickets for the longer pieces this year was the discount for under 18s; next year it'll be standing concerts only I think.

I know what you mean about the prices: £5 is an absolute bargain! :awesome: I wasn't quite sure whether I was eligible for the disabled discount tickets (there wasn't clear info on the website about eligibility), so went for full price tickets.

That reminds me: my mum owes me money for the tickets

Beethoven #5&6 should be good. I have the Barenboim cycle on CD and I rate it very highly. I might be able to make it for #7&8 - I come back from holiday late the day before so if I'm not too tired I'll definitely be there. #3&4 was the one I really wanted to see, though. I haven't heard any of the Boulez works Barenboim will conduct other than Derive 2, so it's a shame I'll miss those as well.

I'd love to go to the proms, why does London have to be so far away?

These three in particular appeal to me:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/proms/whats-on/...ugust-29/14318
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/proms/whats-on/...ugust-05/14248
http://www.bbc.co.uk/proms/whats-on/...ember-06/14334 (because that Beethoven happens to be my all-time favourite concerto)

As do ALL the Beethoven symphonies, and the Bernstein Mass.

I'm crossing my fingers that all the ones I want to go to will be televised! Unfortunately I move into halls on the last night, so looks like I can't watch that

I'm a bit late to this thread, and to the proms, but went to my first one last week and now I'm hooked! I went to Bach Mass in B minor, queued from about 4 and was really close to the front. Am thinking about the Bernstein Mass today. Hadn't heard any of it until about 30 mins ago when I started listening on youtube, it's quite interesting! I might struggle through the whole thing with no interval though . I really like the sound of the free talk beforehand at the Royal College of Music, about Margaret Atwood's The Handmaids Tale, so I might end up going. I would reeeeeeally like to go to Le Nozze di Figaro later this month.

I ended up going to Bernstein's Mass yesterday and it was AMAZING!!! So glad I went. The queue was pretty small so I was standing right at the front, and it was fantastic, the choir (adults and children) was huge. I absolutely loved it.

Regretting I didn't go to the B minor mass.. watched it on TV and could see how much better it would've been live

I'm going to Mahler 6 too (try to spot the only under-50 in the arena). Did you go to the first Bach organ recital today? What did you make of Cameron Carpenter? Complete nutter I thought... clearly very talented but he ****ed around too much with Bach. Couple of people around me were shaking their heads, looking at each other, not applauding. Still, managed to enjoy it for the virtuosity. (On a side note, he sounded a lot like Glenn Gould when talking)
