Yes 53  starting BA (Honours ) Philosophy and Psychology in Oct
Think I am the oldest here so far

Sounds really interesting, where will you be studying?
My first year was really difficult, prior to going back to uni I hadn't been in education for about 10 years and it was a big adjustment for me and I also I used to finish a night shift and then go to uni in the morning. But subsequent years was ok, I did my degree over 4 years period. I think all you need is focus and determination. There were other matured students in my set. I did not do the usual student stuff like young people do, I simply attended lectures, socialised with a couple of matured students when I had the time. Overall it was an amazing experience.

I have just finished an access course and I will be 29 when I start my pharmacy degree in September at Liverpool John Moores. I am so excited and nervous at the same time!

I'm 25 and married, starting a degree in September but slightly worried that it'll be harder to make friends as I am not living on campus and will have a different outlook towards studies than maybe the younger students have.
I'm 29 and will hopefully be studying at DMU in September. Can't decide between Psychology and Pharmacy though!! Really worried about being the oldest and being lonely, especially as I have social anxiety and won't be 'living the student life'.

I am full of admiration, I did one year of an OU degree many years ago but found motivation difficult so took the decision that I needed to be on site which is working for me. I think OU degrees should be given extra value as it takes such determination.

Good luck and enjoy every bit

I will be 34 later this year.

Doing my MBA at University of Zurich.

I was 26 when I first started studying for my 2nd degree in Law from Birkbeck (London), started out part time. It took some time to get there but I completed the entire academic stage only to realize law isn't for me, no regrets as you should never stop learning.

What and where will you be studying?
I wouldn't try to worry too much about making friends. I'm going to uni for the 2nd time in September. First time around I was one of the 'young ones', there were a few mature students on my course and to be honest I preferred their company to that of the people my own age.
Although I still partied and drank my loan away, thus enjoying all the aspects of a diverse student collective :-)

I too am married, with a family and will not be living on campus but I think so long as you throw yourself into your course and Student life in general I'm sure you'll make some firm friends. Your outlook as a more mature person will no doubt have the younger ones coming to you for help and advice too.

You're not on your own though...

I've been having exactly the same thoughts and worries, but I intend to put myself out there as much as I can and get involved with as much as I can without overstretching myself. My family have already been prewarned that they probably won't see me from one day to the next as I intend to pretty much live at Uni 24/7.
I'm 28, will be 29 in a few weeks. I'm just going into my second year of Mental Health nursing (BSc) and many eons ago I did a degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics and a masters in Genomics. When I went back to uni last year I was dreading it, thinking that I'd be the oldest on the course. However there are a range of ages on my course, starting from college leavers (18/19) all the way 74! In my tutorial group of 13 I'm actually the 3rd youngest. There are many mature students on my course who have come from all types of background. Now my age doesn't bother me at all.

Thank you :-) my husband and I have discussed me getting involved as much as possible in student life also. Looking forward to freshers week and have already started talking to a few people on my course through Facebook. It's a bit of a godsend to be able to talk to people first as I feel less apprehensive about starting. Will be joining some societies etc as well so will make friends that way.

haha I could do with a few more 'ancients' about. There's about 60 or so in my intake and I think there's only a few of us that are 25+. There's certainly only 2 of us 30+.

Contrary to lots of other experiences I have got on 'ok' but not great with the younger people on my course, but the first year has just felt like we are worlds apart. Quite apart from the age gap, they're out clubbing all the time drinking purple drinks and dressing up as lifeguards etc. Frankly I was a boring sheeeite at nineteeen and never much went for all that, preferring to chat with friends in a quiet local. I'm going to make an effort next year to join a few societies and try and meet a broader range of people. The people on my course are incredibly samey, which was a real shock for me. There very few liberal types and, perhaps unsurprisingly, very few people particularly interested in the arts.

Fortunately I live in post grad house and my GF is just 70 miles down the road at Nottingham Uni, so i've had a few people to hang out with.

I'm 28 and due to start my Accounting course in a few weeks, I am extremely nervous but excited at the same time. I hope there will be a few more mature students in my class too, would hate to be the only 'mature' student. Having found this thread has reassured me slightly though. :-)
I am 28 this Sept.

Falls right on my uni's freshers week.
