There was a question asking about the advantages and disadvantages of publicity! And something about healthy eating, and fashion. But can't remember their titles
    Thanks

Hey guys, what topics or possible questions do you think will come up?

I think maybe a technology one on the use of mobile phones perhaps and maybe even anorexia and the pressure the media put on young people to be attractive?

Mot a Mot is a LIFESAVER!!!

I am learning all vocab from the book, useful essay phrases (compiled a list), reading through past essays I have written, doing essays on questions that haven't previously come up and going through each sub topic and noting fors and againsts, general phrases on the content etc etc.

Also just general essay plans - sometimes it isn't necessary to write out a complete essay, the ideas are probably the hardest thing to come up with - not the french!!

    Bonne Chance!
    Thanks !
Do you think I could learn 6 sub topics? - Quite in depth
Do you think that will be okay?

I did my AS french last year, my teacher made me do every single essay that came up and made me do five minutes of verb conjugating everyday on conjuguemos.com,
I also had to mark my essays, I had to learn the subject vocab and key phrases by writing them out and getting tested on them, then grammar was the important part. In every essay I had to have one subjunctive, conditional, imperfect and future.
Il faut quon sache... il faut quon puisse..si jetais...je ferais/je rendrais/.. il n'y aura plus de...
otherwise just keep practising essay writing until you become fluent with structure and expressing ideas coz its the easiest place to pick up marks.
Also dont use je pense... a mon avis.. selon moi... jestime que...

    Should be!!

However, if you have the time try and do all of them - you don't have to write out the essays just come up with ideas.

30 minute session per sub topic tops?

this is a resit for me. got a u last time.

teacher last year couldnt work out how i could put so little effort into speaking and almost achieve full marks and yet was her worse pupil ever at writing in an a level language. half an hours revision got me a mark or so shy of a* in the oral.

in my defence, i am hearing impaired, but with the mp3 they give you that aint an excuse.
i know no grammar whatsoever, i tend to leave the 10 mark grammar section completely bare.

    any advice?

You have the text book, try to practice conjugating verbs from that

AND - How was your oral? Do you think it went well, and what did your teacher say? How did you get an just shy of an A* with minimal revision :O

yeah i have the text book, but dont even know what conjugate means

my oral was last year, had to drop french cos i got a u in the written exam. it went well but i could have prepared. did a little bit of preparation on the morning of the exam and that was it.
teacher didnt say anything. i just pretended to be french; threw a few hand expressions and shrugs along with a really good accent and just spoke. simple.

it doesnt really count for anything if i cant get a D in the written exam on friday; i think its 80% written 20% oral.

absolutely bricking it. vie de merde Rodney!

In short, yes. But make sure it's all relevant because you wont get any marks for irrelevant bits. (not even grammar ones!)

I went to a lecture by the chief languages examiner, he proposed a template essays should follow:

    Brief intro (introduce topic)

    Point One:
    - State point
    - Develop point
    - Opinion
    - Reason for opinion

    Other points...

    Conclusion (Summarise points without repeating)

If you do about 6 points (3 positive, 3 negative) and a good conclusion and intro, you should be on track!

    Hope this helps!

You know for the intro + conclusion, is it like an average of 4 - 5 lines? I'm never sure how much is sufficient for them. Also, with the points you have mentioned, I'm guessing that they prefer that we give fewer points in more detail compared to example after example which is in less detail?

4-5 lines should definitely be enough. Generally, between 4 and 6 points should do it - if you work to writing 300 words that gives you 40 words (ish) per point..

Yeah, quality > quantity in this exam, so more detail the better...

No problem! Good Luck! Don't forget to plan your essay - I'm not a bug fan of planning but it really is essential in this paper. I was really behind my classmates at the start of the year, but I've done a lot of catching up on the aforementioned resources and it helped really quickly!
