Dumbbell exercises
Hello everyone,
I am planning to buy dumbbells for biceps and triceps exercises only. Most people tend to work out the whole body but as I don't go to gym and don't want to work out the whole body, is it healthy to just work on biceps and triceps. Also as I am a beginner do I have to follow a specific diet? Any advice on dumbbell exercises would also be good.
Thanks again! -
Re: Dumbbell exercises
My advice is to work your whole body, you'll look stupid with massive arms and skinny everywhere else. Health wise there is nothing wrong with doing it; diet wise, the usual, calorie surplus lots of good quality protein, carbs and healthy fats; exercise wise, your standard bicep curls, hammer curls and over-head tricep extensions.
Like I said, I would recommend staying how you are instead of working only your arms. -
Re: Dumbbell exercisesI understand what you are trying to say but what do you think if I do lots of cardio like running and skipping along biceps and triceps exercises(Original post by EonBlueApocalypse)

Re: Dumbbell exercises
what are you trying to achieve?
Lots of cardio will burn calories and improve your cardio abilities hence over all health. It won't make your legs particularly strong. It's a different sort of exercise from weights unless you are doing weights for cardio- as in very low weight, very high rep, circuit style
If you are using weights for muscle or strength then work your whole body- everything else, especially just bis and tris, is totally ****ing stupidLast edited by BKS; 12-05-2012 at 14:27. -
Re: Dumbbell exercisesYou'll still end up with a skinny body and big arms (if you eat enough).(Original post by MuneebS)

I think you're beyond anyone's help on this forum, I'd visit bodybuilding.com. It's got loads of information for beginners (diet, training programs etc) everything to get you started.
Please don't train just your arms, please don't for your sake. -
Re: Dumbbell exercisesCan you give examples of that in food? Thanks.(Original post by EonBlueApocalypse)

Re: Dumbbell exerciseswell that's not necessarily true. 40 minutes HIIT on a bike 3 times a week with 35 sec bursts of 4x the rest level will make your legs v strong. Also crosstrainer, uphill treadmill etc...(Original post by BKS)

If you want to work ur bis and tris only go ahead OP but with the right diet you will put much more mass on your arms if you work other areas too. Obviously legs are a huge muscle group so working them releases more testosterone levels than the smaller muscle groups -
Re: Dumbbell exercisesThe testosterone thing is broscience. HIIT won't add on a lot of mass to the legs either.(Original post by rugbyladosc)

Re: Dumbbell exerciseswell... its not. and noone said anything about adding alot of mass, cardio does improve strength.(Original post by Daviant)

Re: Dumbbell exercisesIt is, testosterone and GH are increased by an insignificant amount for a couple of hours... That's it. Cycling does not build strength in the same way that squats do... Cycling intervals isn't going to make your squat max increase.(Original post by rugbyladosc)
