We have two vacancies for a Student Placement during the Summer 6 week
period and Christmas 2 week period for Pharmacy students. Students from
other disciplines would also be welcomed to work within other areas of our

About Us

The Specials Laboratory Ltd commenced trading, with a staff of three, in
July 1999 and was originally situated in premises at The Royal Victoria
Infirmary in Newcastle upon Tyne. However, as a result of business growth
the Company relocated to its current premises at Unit 1 on the Low Prudhoe
Industrial Estate in Northumberland in March 2001.

The Company holds a specials manufacturing licence which allows manufacture
of most non-sterile dosage forms you can think of please see list of
product types/dosage forms below.

There are four distinct manufacturing rooms for the preparation of coal
tar, external, internal and *potent products.

*A dedicated potents facility enables the manufacture, within a safe,
contained and controlled environment, of cytotoxic, antibiotic, hormone and
dithranol products.

Our combination of clean room technology and intensive continuous staff
training ensures the integrity, storage and supply of all our products.

The Specials Laboratory also holds a Wholesale Dealers Licence and by
holding stock of a wide range of imported and sterile products, including
eye drops, we are able to offer an extensive wholesale service to our
customers.
We also offer a “sourcing service” to our customers for those unusual items
which may be either tricky to obtain, or not a standard stock item.

Since its inception the Company has maintained a year on year growth
leading to a steady increase in the number of staff employed. Currently
there are 107 members of staff, and our ongoing recruitment process hopes
to see that figure growing to over 150 by end of 2006. Staffing levels are
constantly reviewed to ensure we have the resources to maintain our normal
levels of customer service our aim is to deliver the majority of goods
within 48 hours of the order being placed.
NB. Special arrangements exist for deliveries over the Easter and
Christmas/New Year holiday periods. Existing customers are routinely
notified by post of arrangements for delivery. Requests for these details
can also be sent by fax or email, if required. In addition, details will be
posted on our website.

The Specials Laboratory Ltd endeavours to provide the most effective and
professional service possible. Orders can be placed by telephone (answer
phone service for out of hours calls), fax or email. Goods are dispatched
via Royal Mail Special Delivery which ensures delivery before 1pm the
following day. When even speedier delivery is required we can offer
delivery, by courier, on next or same day.

The Company currently operates a scheme for customers with “NE” and “DH”
postcodes orders placed by 10.00am (manufactured items) and 12.30pm
(wholesale items) will be delivered on the same day. This service has
proven to be very successful and will be expanded in the near future.

Our customer base covers the whole of the British Isles and we supply goods
to community pharmacies, doctor’s surgeries, and an increasing number of
hospital pharmacy departments.

As our current database contains over 12,500 formulations, with several new
formulations being added on a daily basis, The Specials laboratory can
provide comprehensive specials supply service. Our Technical and QA teams,
including six pharmacists and a team of highly qualified pharmacy
technicians, all drawing many years manufacturing experience from a broad
range of specialities, can provide answers to all of our customer’s
technical and formulation queries. Our Customer Services team can be

Manufacturing processes on site at The Specials Laboratory and Specials
Clinical manufacturing do not require or involve animal experimentation of
any kind.
Therefore, The Specials Laboratory and Specials Clinical Manufacturing
neither conduct, nor contract work of this nature to any external suppliers
on their behalf.

Additional Company information February 2006

The Specials Laboratory has recently been granted a licence to manufacture
& supply veterinary products, and we are currently devising a strategy to
determine the development of this service.

In order to extend our already exemplary customer service, The Specials
laboratory has recently acquired premises at Unit 2 on Low Prudhoe
Industrial Estate. We are currently in the process of designing the layout
of this new clean room facility to enable us to expand our “Specials”
manufacturing capacity.
It is planned that this additional facility will be in production by mid
2006 and will enable us to achieve our Investors in People business
direction statement i.e.

“To be the UK’s number one Specials supplier to community pharmacies and
hospitals”.

The Specials laboratory is pleased to announce the opening of our Specials
Clinical Manufacturing, a 17,000 sq m unit based at Unit 6, also on the Low
Prudhoe Industrial Estate. This unit has seen a £2.4m self-investment to
provide our clients with a comprehensive service for progressing their
product through Phase I, II and III of the clinical trials stages. This
service consists of the following;

· State of the art clean room technology
· Test method development and validation
· Process validation
· Manufacturing & filling
· Packaging & labelling solutions
· QP review service
· Generation of batch documentation/ SOPs/ preparation of regulatory
documentation
· Stability testing

The facility also includes Microbiology and Analytical Chemistry
laboratories to provide service for non-sterile, sterile and aseptic
manufacture.
