Realistically how much can your first house be?Say, your income is $60k how much could your first house be? I've found some amazing houses in Mukilteo, Washington costing about $300k so about £220k would this be reasonable for a first house?
I dont have the slightest clue so excuse my ignorance -

Re: Realistically how much can your first house be?That's really quite amazing, why don't people go to work in America? Wages are much higher and houses are much cheaper? http://www.homes.com/listing/1636635...ILTEO_WA_98275(Original post by Guru Jason)

Re: Realistically how much can your first house be?I calculated the exchange, it was 235 thousand pounds for a massive house, whilst in the UK for that, you couldn't get much(Original post by Guru Jason)

Re: Realistically how much can your first house be?Yeah but no one is going to get a house like that for their first house.(Original post by multiplexing-gamer)

Re: Realistically how much can your first house be?You can get 5 bedrooms and a decent sized garden on the outskirts of a major city for that much:(Original post by multiplexing-gamer)

Admittedly you couldn't get much in London or the South East, just as $380k isn't going to get you far in New York. -

Re: Realistically how much can your first house be?
Your uncle probably has a working visa, which isn't an actual one. If you live there for long enough without interruptions (not leaving for more than one year) you can apply for citizenship. Also, to get a job in America without citizenship, your employer has to prove that there is no American citizens (or not enough) suitable for the particular vocation.

Re: Realistically how much can your first house be?They're rare. You've got be highly skilled in the first place and be doing a job no Americans can do or are willing to do.(Original post by multiplexing-gamer)

Getting that Green Card for permanent residency is not easy. -

Re: Realistically how much can your first house be?I can see what you're saying, but this is in a picturesque neighbourhood near to the coast, in a modern and large house. That house looks quite dated...(Original post by MancStudent098)

Re: Realistically how much can your first house be?Yeah, and generally suburban house prices in the US are going to be lower, after all there's a lot more space to build in. I'm just pointing out that £235k actually goes quite a long way in some parts of the UK.(Original post by multiplexing-gamer)

Re: Realistically how much can your first house be?Thanks for this info. Are you on a joint income? If so how much is that? Thanks!(Original post by Beckyweck)
I'm currently looking for my first house at the moment and we have a budget of about 100K. You have to be pretty lucky to get a nice house priced that low but now's the best time since the market crashed.

OK thanks anyway!(Original post by MancStudent098)
