    Operations is such BS!
    Hi All,

This is quite the rant on investment banking operations.

I am currently based within a middle-office team for an investment bank which is locked at a regional office.

The daily tasks/processes are most mundane and repetitive. This office wholly focuses on operations, hence it is quite a dry and far from stimulating.

I'm surrounded by idiots and individual who are far from intellectual. Most have mediocre GCSEs/A-levels and attended universities such as ex-polys, lower-ranked RG universities and other ****holes.

Being a straight-A student at A-level, and having attended a RG university for a year and now going onto a top12 university. I feel quite intimidated. The work is quite unchallenging, unstimulated and monkey's play. I feel embarrassed to be working with individuals who attended the likes of UCLAN, Hertfordshire, London East, etc..I have to resort to reading novels/history books to stay sane and intellectual. urgh.

I would advise well-educated individuals to stay a far from operations. I'm quite an asset to them -I've advised them on various issues and policy implementation and I am currently working on exporting a process out to Singapore for an operations team there. The work is mundane and tedious!

I cannot wait to start my undergrad and aim for fo.

    Rant over.

Most BBs have offices in there, such as JPM in Bournemouth.

Salary is quite shoddy. Essentially you are a slave to your S&T superiors in FO but then you're minuscule in comparison to the BO teams in the likes of India haha!

Usually an entry role for graduate through non-grad scheme can range from £19-24k depending on the role. £24-27k once you have one year's experience. About £30-35k for team leader roles/supervisor. Managers would probably be hitting 50-60k and then when you become a head or manage about 5+ teams you're looking at £70-88k.

If you come through the graduate scheme it's about a total package of about £27-30k.

    Regional offices:

    JP - Bournemouth
    MS - Edinburgh
    RBS - Manchester/Stoke
    DB - Birmingham
Bank of America ML - Chester

I know for sure I can leave my current place right now and go to another regional office for the same MO role and earn about £25-26k and that's at age 20! But Ops is too mundane for me and I'm sure if I make it to FO the rewards will be much more lucrative..some regional offices also give a yearly 10-15% bonus depending on performance..
