Make non-offensive words your 'go-tos'. I worked with a youth association for a long time and forced myself to use 'silly' swear words... calling people "spanners", "tools", etc.Last edited by Illusionary; 13-05-2012 at 16:12. -

Replace the swear word with another word e.g instead of saying oh **** just say oh sugar. Eventually you should stop swearing.Mm I've tried those things but I just think I sound like a bit of a weirdo when I come out with them :-p(Original post by Guru Jason)
Some of mine include 'Sugar', 'Basket' and 'Begger'.
- thanks anyway

Re: How to stop swearing..
Its hard to stop swearing, because it becomes a habit and you do it without thinking really. Although I guess what you learn, you can unlearn. Go a day or two and force yourself not to swear. If you're about to come out with one, stop yourself. Sooner or later it will be so long since you've sworn, you just won't do it anymore, or at the very least, not do it nearly as much.

Re: How to stop swearing..Ah, but the completely unoffensive "chuffing twonk" just sounds harsh. To the person it's directed at, anyway, everyone else laughs. Win win.(Original post by Cookidge)

Re: How to stop swearing..I've never heard it before! I'm going to try and use it, I'll practice at home first though.(Original post by Drewski)

Re: How to stop swearing..
I don't even attempt to. I don't see what differentiates swear words from other words in the english language.
They are used in some of the most beautiful and prolific writings in existence. Swearing has it's place in our society, close minded fools will frown upon it but I'll always be safe in the knowledge I am not full of hate and prejudice for petty reasons. -

I know what you mean! I say the f word far too much. I managed to not sneeze for 4 months before... I'm sure it's possible to stop swearing if you can stop sneezing. It sounds odd, but it's just a little bit of restraint and finding an alternative!
