why do I find it so hard to put weight on?
uh so i'm about 5'6 and i'm 15 years old. I don't know why but I find it really difficult to put weight on. I'm guessing I have a high metabolism because I eat quite a lot. I weigh 41kg/90lb/6 stone 5lb. I don't know what an average 15 year old girl should weigh but i feel underweight. I look underweight, in fact I have had people ask me if i'm anorexic before. I'm not anorexic and i don't have an eating disorder, i love food, haha. I'm vegetarian so no meat or no fish, could that be contributing to my weight issues?
thanks x -

Have a huge milkshake everyday bolstered with a couple of spoons of maxi muscle, and a pint of guiness every evening. -

Regardless of what you think you eat, it just isn't enough. Keep a food diary for the next few days, it will really allow you see what you are eating. I would say aim for 2500kcal per day initially, and make sure you are hitting all your key nutrient levels, which can get neglected if you are vege. If you don't gain weight at this level, up it to 3000kcal the next week, you will eventually gain weight.

Re: why do I find it so hard to put weight on?If those figures are accurate then your BMI is extremely low. As has been said, a food diary might help you see that you're not eating enough. I'd also highly recommend seeing a doctor. They can check your overall health, because being underweight is just generally bad for you, as well as give you help and advice to put on weight. When I was underweight I got calorie supplements on prescription (milkshake drink type things), which will be free for you at your age, so you have nothing to lose by asking the doctor about it. It's quite likely that being a vegetarian has an effect too, because you're likely to not be getting as much protein and fat as a meat-eater would. Try and make sure that you have some kind of protein in every meal - beans, lentils, Quorn, etc.(Original post by tumblrgirl)
