Horror game suggestions for PS3?
I haven't really played video games for like 8-10 years so I'm really out of touch with it all, but got a PS3 recently and am looking for a scary game. There are some things though:
- Ideally I'd like the graphics to be as good as possible.
- I'd prefer it if I could get a game where I am playing from the very start of the story, I don't want to start playing sequels if I can help it. That means I probably won't buy the silent hills or resident evils, unless they've remade the originals in HD?
Also I'm aware of "Dead Space", which looks very good, but I'm more after creepy/ghostly/disturbing **** than alien ****.
Any suggestions? -
Re: Horror game suggestions for PS3?Resident Evil 5 is a good blend of action and horror, however the A.I lets it down, and is best played with a mate.(Original post by SnoochToTheBooch)

Resident Evil 4 is a classic, and you can buy it from the PSN store for £15.
Dead Space 2. Although it does have alien beings in it, I can safely say that it's one of the scariest and creepiest games I've played.
You can get the Silent Hill collection for the PS3, with Silent Hills 2 & 3, which were both good (SH 2 being the best in the series).
I've heard that the F.E.A.R. series is quite good also. The first two you could probably pick up at a reasonable price. With the third coming out last year.
Hope I've helped somewhat, there isn't an abundance of horror games on PS3, just like turn based RPGs
Now, get playing !

Re: Horror game suggestions for PS3?I'd recommend the first Dead Space too if you're new to gaming, start there and then play Dead Space 2. I felt the original really had the Aliens movie vibe about it the sequel lost slightly.(Original post by Mr.Zen)

It isn't horror at all but Heavy Rain has a thriller, freaky vibe to it. -

Re: Horror game suggestions for PS3?
If you're knew to the whole PS3 thing and you want a good horror game then I'd recommend Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare. It's the sequel to the original Red Dead Redemption, but it's an entirely new concept and story line so it won't feel like a sequel, to be honest.
It also has, quite possibly, the funniest quote in video game history:
"I'm going to wander down that lonely, deserted street and get my bag".

Re: Horror game suggestions for PS3?I can't really say for PS3 prices, but despite the game being less than a year old, it's been REALLY cheap in some PC sales. I picked it up in January for £5, and just last week it was available for £3.25 from another website.(Original post by Mr.Zen)

I think he knows. You suggested Dead Space 2, and he was adding onto your list, suggesting the OP try Dead Space first then DS2(Original post by Mr.Zen)
Errr, I'm not OP xD

Re: Horror game suggestions for PS3?I got dead space 2 and I've played it for about 5 hours and already bored of it. It's too repetitive, too action-y. It's not what I was looking for. As far as I can tell it's just call of duty in the dark with aliens.(Original post by Dalimyr)

Re: Horror game suggestions for PS3?
Amnesia never came out for the PS3 did it?
I don't actually own a PS3 myself so I'm not sure if you can actually play these games on it, but if you can may I suggest trying some of the older PS2 titles like Fatal Frame 2 and Silent hill 2. Aside from Amnesia they were easily the scariest games I've ever played. -
Re: Horror game suggestions for PS3?No, otherwise I'd have suggested it immediately as it perfectly fits the bill for what the OP's after. Alas, Amnesia's PC-only. As are its Penumbra predecessors. Another one I would have suggested, Condemned: Criminal Origins, was only released on 360 and PC.(Original post by Carecup)

PC has loads of horror games, with some being ported across to the 360 as well, but PS3 doesn't really seem to get too many besides the likes of the Resident Evils and Silent Hills, which the OP ruled out immediately.
If you're still looking, having cast Dead Space 2 aside, Catherine and Deadly Premonition might suit you, and Alice: Madness Returns might be an option as well. I haven't personally played either of the Alice games (nor have I played either of the others I suggested, actually(Original post by SnoochToTheBooch)

), but I understand American McGee has made them really dark and twisted. The original is twelve years old but was re-released on PS3 to coincide with the sequel's release, and is available via the PSN store...but as you insisted on 'good graphics', I suspect I'd be wasting my time suggesting it
As I said above, I would have suggested Condemned but it was never released on PS3, but its sequel, Condemned 2: Bloodshot, was. Clive Barker's Jericho might be up your street. And Alan Wake might be worth a look......though having rummaged through and dug those out, I'm not even sure what you'd make of them. Maybe I should install DS2 and try it, because I'm surprised you described it as "call of duty in the dark with aliens", which doesn't seem right to me, especially not from my memories of the original game

Re: Horror game suggestions for PS3?
Heavy Rain is brilliant not horror but it has a sorta scary mess with your head vibe
First Dead space is pretty jumpy at times as well
S.T.A.L.K.E.R really good atmosphere of fear.
Siren:Blood Curse i found pretty terrifying.
Clive Barkers Jericho one of the more disgusting horror games. -
Re: Horror game suggestions for PS3?
Catherine is a bizarre recommendation for a horror game, but it is good.
Deadly Premonition, though, is one of the best games of the current gen. A proper hidden gem if ever there was one. Well, once you can get over the **** controls and **** camera
It's not on PS3 though, at least not over here. Which is a shame.
My earlier rec of Siren Blood Curse remains the only game I can think of that really fits the bill. -

As for Deadly Premonition, it's one of the best games of the current gen. If ever there was a game that was a proper hidden gem, this is it. Once you can get over the **** camera and shirt controls, anyway
Not released on PS3 though, at least not in English. Which is a shame.
My earlier rec of Siren Blood Curse remains the only game I can think of that seems to fit the bill for you, although now it has been mentioned, Jericho might do the trick aswell. -
Re: Horror game suggestions for PS3?As I said, I haven't played it. Was just going by a couple of mentions that it was a survival horror game, even if it's complete BS(Original post by hogso)

Would be so much easier for me to recommend games if it was on PC rather than PS3.

Re: Horror game suggestions for PS3?
Catherine is a puzzle game with a strange RPG-esk moral choice system in it. It most definitely isn't a survival horror.
I'd like to back up the Alan Wake recommendation- while it isn't very scary it'll make you jump a few times and it has a really nice combat system with a good story.
Now, get playing !
