Anyone studying Small Island by Andrea Levy?

I would mention some authorial context: Levy's parents emigrated to England in 1948. Historical context can generally come from the novel: it is historical in that it chronicals the effect of the war. I have also linked it to Eastern European countries joining the EU in 2004 (the year SI was published) and potential fears of immigrants at the time.

Hey, I REALLY need help with answering this question.

Analyse how Levy Presents the themes of gender roles in Small Island?

And im also struggling to find quotes to do with gender roles thatt i can analyse its structure and form!
You can talk about how Hortense dominates Gilbert- she is defying the traditional gender role norms.
Also the fact that she married him because single women "cant travel alone" but by her being married, she can to travel to England- it shows women had no independence and still had to rely on men to gain the smallest sense of identity.

In addition, you can talk about Queenie and Bernard's marriage
