Re: HFerguson bulks like his life depends on it
    Friday AM:

not gonna lie, **** session. I'm not usually one to make excuses, but I'd barely eaten all week because I lost my appetite I was so anxious about exams, had some pretty bad insomnia, had 5 hours of sleep on thursday night, so it's not surprising this session didn't go well tbh

    Back squats 60x5, 70x4, 80x3, 90x3, 90x1 +F, (grueling) 80x5 FML
    Push press bar x 10, 30x5, 40x5, 45x3, 50 3x5 :awesome:
Snatch pulls 60x3, 70x2, 60 2x3 ****ing love snatch pulls
(neutral grip) chins 3x3 feeling lazy, slow negatives
    EZ bar curls 3x8 12.5kg

Also got drunk last night after exams and now hungover as **** typing this. Some girl stood on my foot last night in heels and it feels ****ing terrible, very badly bruised.

Because I haven't really worked out what I should do snatch pulls for yet. Should I do them over 100% of 1RM to work on form in the first and second pulls or should I do them lighter to practise speed and explosion? Generally go for the latter and get them to eye level...

surely eye level is a snatch high pull? a particularly high pull at that! high pulls as I know em are done to the sternum

("pull" - to the navel, "high pull" to the sternum)

I thought the general idea of the pulls was to go over your 1RM for the lift to build strength in that motor engram, the pattern, the technique, so that when youcome to do the actual lift, it's explosive and the technique is solid

Yeah that's my query, what is the point? :p:
The programme I'm on is percentage based and is normally between 80-110% of 1RM. My problem is that I can always pull my 1RM very high, it's just my technique for getting under the bar is often rubbish, so what I'm saying is that strength-wise my 1RM in snatch is not my "true" 1RM.
    Does that even make sense?

Yeah makes perfect sense, I'm exactly the same so I know what you mean
I pull it high as hell, but getting under is unpredictable and sometimes not as quick as it should be

:five: annoying! But it's a problem that is more quickly solved than being too weak, so I suppose we can both be happy about that.

I think i am going to stick with what I am doing currently, I think heavy pulls will come later, maybe after next season. We shall see.

    Aaaaand joined :awesome:
joined the same gym I was at last summer, so I didn't have to pay any admin or joining fees - so I only paid £13 for the rest of this month, they didn't charge me a whole month! AWESOME
Only £21.99 per month, which aint too bad at all, plenty of olympic bars, albeit not in great condition, plenty of plates (not in great condition either), but i ain't complaining, it'll do. 1 squat rack, 1 bench, 2 free benches. Only busy on mondays and tuesdays apparently, then empty the rest of the week, according to the staff.

    Chalk: ok
    Olympic lifts: ok
Dropping plates and bailing olympic lifts: ok

not bad at all for a commercial gym if I do say so. ONLY negative is no foam rollers :\

    So today
Front squat 50x5, 60x4, 70x3, 75x3, 77.5x3, 80x3, 82.5 x 2 (didn't foam roll so tight IT band and the WORST quad pump EVER, seriously charlie horsed)
    Overhead squats bar x 5, 40kg x5
    Bench barx8, 40x5, 50x5, 55 3x5
    Snatch pulls 50x3, 60x3, 70x3
Face pulls - different pulleys so loads of warmup sets figuring out what felt correct, then 3x8 work sets

Also have a fridge full of food, so I am one happy chappy. Let the bulk re-commence.

Maybe buy your own foam roller online?

Then you can even do it other days when you're not at the gym?

yep, probably will do have been considering getting one for a a while, lack of funds was the reason i didnt

Also saw another guy in the weights area doing hang snatches, and catching ATG deep, whilst I was warming up  Iwas like "omg another oly bro" but didn't see him again after I finished warming up. Also got chatting to a powerlifter who said he used to do a bit of oly, nice guy. Pretty friendly atmosphere.

Sounds like an excellent gym. Is it a big chain or just an independent one?

    Thursday AM:

Back squat 60x5, 70x4, 80x3, 85x3, 90x3, 92.5x 1+F (grumble, didn't feel like fighting it) (triples, was feeling lazy, a lot of my training these days is heavy triples, quite preferring them tbh?)
    Push press bar x8, 30x4, 40x3, 45x3, 50x5, 52.5 2x4 (being lazy really)
Overhead press 32.5x8 (surprise surprise this aggravated my rotator cuffs)
    (neutral grip) chins 3x3
    DB Curls 12kg x8, 10kg 2x8 (noodles for arms)

Also met the illusive oly bro, in power perfect IIs, what a nice guy! We worked in on the rack together and squatted together (no homo). Awesome to know there's at least one other weightlifter who takes their squatting seriously.
Some of the **** you see in commercial gyms... one guy doing all his exercises standing on a bosu ball :lolwut:

Things seem to be going up nicely. I would recommend doing your first warm up set of squats with less than 60 kg though seeing as that is ~65% of your 1RM at the moment.

Strict Press before push press might be better too, but each to his own

Yeah start with just the bar. I squat over 180 and still warm up with just the bar to start with.

Maybe he only blogs the higher sets? I never blog my warmups, but I always do at least 3 sets of hang snatches, OH squats and other various things with the bar before a snatch workout for example. Cba blogging that every time.
