    OCR Tragedy Exam
Anyone else bricking it about this exam? I swear my class are so unprepared...we have only done one timed paper in class, and nowhere near enough practice at essay writing!
And I do not get Agamemnon. What the hell are the chorus on about for the first half of the play? I was trying to write a summary of the events in the play, but didnt get past the first few pages
    Good luck everyone

Doing the same paper I HATE AJAX WITH A PASSION... Agamemnon is my favourite text lol- the chorus in the first half basically are looking back at the causes of the trojan war, its justifications and its effects- as well as being terrified about what Clytemnestra and Aegisthus are doing... Hope this helps (if you want more, give me soething specific and ill try to help) Good Luck

    Re: OCR Tragedy Exam
I just tried a c.) question about how the chorus show their contempt for Medea, and literally got stuck after one paragraph - I just wrote about how (in the passage) they verbally abuse each other and say they hate each other and that was it!

I would have thought you could add a paragraph suggesting how they don't find her contemptable- that would be my first thought :/

I hope theres an essay on how sympathy/suffering is created, weve done a lot on that! I think the essays are likely to be based around themes in Ajax/TW cause they are new, and one of the context qs will be medea/ajax, and the other ajax/tw

Hoping for a 'compare the presentation of women in four texts'- teacher said it is quite possible and, looking at what you could write IT WOULD BE AWESOME

Also Medea and/or Agamemnon are definatly gonna be there cos the resitters (who did the paper before the new texts were added) need to be able to take the paper without learning two whole new texts

I'm guessing they'll use Agamemnon for the context because they did Medea last year, and Agamemnon the year before.
I'm so scared for this exam! Are you guys revising quotes?

Yayayay there's a thread for this exam I didn't realiseee I'm revising quotes but not sure how many I'll be able to remember :/ I reckon they'll give a choice of contexts one on Agamemnon and one on either Trojan Women/ Ajax, and then for Section B it might be something on comparing the portrayal of one particular character, e.g. Cassandra or Agamemnon in the plays you've studied- my teacher thinks it might be something like that! Good luck everyone!

I am completely bricking it too, I really don't think I'm going to do well at all! Currently hating Trojan Women, the rest are all equally bad for me. Is anyone else doing Mycenae and Archaeology, and/or has any idea what might come up tomorrow? My whole class has no idea!

I'm doing quotes at the moment as well, and I reckon you're right about the context questions. I'm hoping for Trojan Women, because there's so much you can ramble about the death and destruction and horrors of war

I wouldn't worry too much about quotes - some useful ones like
'ancient violence longs to breed' or 'faithful hound'
But you don't need to use exact quotes, as long as you say the jist... ie Athena likens Odysseus to a hunting hound, or Medea convinces the chorus of her tragic plight, you don't have to be word perfect

I agree, my teacher said paraphrasing is fine, although learning set quotes for each person helps me remember specific details about their character Lists just really help me for some reason

Glad everyone else seems to hate one of the plays, I can't stand Ajax, I've not even read it. Oops

Just me or was that really easy? Part 1 I did Trojan Women and did the death and violence essay question. Touch wood, but I'm pretty confident.

Me too...the Trojan Women questioned was properly standard, and we have done sympathy lots, the only problem with that was a bit of repetition of 'this creates horror and shock and so sympathy in the audience' but oh well. The a question was great, but I went into a bit too much detail on the first Andromache scene, then realised I had to go right up to Astyanax! I did the Ajax question, just finished in time too!

I found the timing really horrible!! The questions were great but I just rushed as it got to the end of the paper!
I did Trojan Women and Medea - I'm so annoyed with myself though because I missed out her big speech about the position of women in Episode 1 (even though it was briefly in my plan!) - do you think i'll get marked down significantly for this?
