    Year Abroad 2012/13 Chat Thread
I feel a bit silly asking but how do you make up your credits on an Erasmus year?

I'm going to Genoa (Bologna if I can, but apps seem to be full from my uni so probably Genoa) for a whole year. I know you've to do 60 of these Erasmus credit things but I can't seem to work out how many that is... ideally I could do French and Spanish only but do I need to do more? At my uni you do 120 credits which generally equals three subjects, and I think that's unusual, so maybe that's why I'm confused

I just came back from my semester abroad in England. I was only there for one semester so I had to do 30 ECTS which equalled to 60 english-uni credits. I'm guessing since you normally have to do 120 credits, you'll need to do 60 ECTS. So you will have to take as many subjects as you need to cover that. Some courses might be worth 7.5 ECTS while others might only be worth 5, it depends on where you go, it should say on the uni website though

Confusingly, I read the past students' experiences on my uni website, and they said they weren't obliged to take exams - they just chose whatever course they felt like (no need to sign up) and went to the classes, but exams weren't required, but you could take them if you wanted. That seems too good to be true! Plus the Spanish Erasmus students at Glasgow took exams on my course.
It sounds like you could theoretically register at the uni and do nothing else, although that would be a big waste...

Definitely! Now I've finished uni for the year I just want to be over there!

But I guess having the summer gives me time to actually earn money so I can do stuff while over there!

I'm going to Maryland, USA. I leave on the 19th August, which regrettably feels like an age away right now!

I haven't finished completely yet with uni - I have some exams that I need to get through first. I think once I am done with exams then I'll be raring to go, although I am really looking forward to the summer.

Do you plan on doing much travelling?

Cool. If were studying in Canada I would go to the Arctic! It is always something I thought would be cool to do.

I plan on going to the Philippines as one of my friends invited me to go. I also have a friend in Malaysia so I might go there as well. I definitely plan on going to mainland China, South Korea and Japan! Maybe Thailand as well! Too many good destinations!

Hey! Awesome, I don't know much about Maryland but it sounds like it should be fun. The 19th of August isn't too far away. I have to wait until September. :'(

I'm hoping to see the Northern Lights anyway, would be amazing, just drive out to Banff/Lake Louise and see them :yep:

It's awesome to think that on a year abroad you can just take trips away...I mean I know you can normally but no-one seems to so much at uni!

I study geography so to see that for me would be like a dream come true! What subject do you study?

Yeah I know! I know a few exchange students at my uni and they seem to be going away to new countries every month. It would be great if I could do the same .

English Language...well Linguistics really so for me I'm really excited to get analysing Canadian English, also if I'm lucky with my course choices I'll get to study Blackfoot (the Native Indian language from my area!)

I think most people would kill to see the Northern Lights, it's been on my bucket list for ages!

Tempted to get this: http://www.iwantoneofthose.com/gift-.../30000539.html and see how much I can scratch off next year

I have one of those! Mine looks pretty impressive with the whole of Russia scratched off :p:

Do you think it could be an idea to start a YA 2012-13 thread? It seems like people are starting to chat about it in here and it could be good to have your own thread to get excited in! Start one and I can make it coloured for you
