Anyone have any ideas what they reckon the A* boundary will be this year? -
Not sure to honest(Original post by soindie)

Re: iGCSE 2012 Chemistry DiscussionThe January 2012 paper was 144 for an A*, so I think this year the grade boundaries might be a bit lower as I think it was relatively difficult in comparison to all other years (also that's the general impression from others who have done the paper)(Original post by soindie)
Thank you!

Re: iGCSE 2012 Chemistry DiscussionReally? we were not taught like that!(Original post by Umackjiggles)
OH that one, I'm pretty sure they will accept sulphuric acid as technically the H2SO3 then becomes H2SO4 almost instantly.
Sulphur dioxide reacts with water to form sulphurous acid (highly reversible) and nothing else. But it normally causes acid rain by first reacting with oxygen (catalysed by ozone) to form sulfur trioxide and then dissolving in the rain to form sulphuric acid.
No I think it does not. It does not exist in solution.
My teacher stressed on this...so I think they won't accept sulphuric acid at any costLast edited by StUdEnTIGCSE; 31-05-2012 at 11:22. -
Re: iGCSE 2012 Chemistry DiscussionWhat other questions were on that page? I seem to have forgotten where that question was ...(Original post by ak2109)
The one on the second page, the product of the reaction between water and sulphur dioxide. It forms H2SO3 which you had to name as Sulphorous Acid. -
Re: iGCSE 2012 Chemistry DiscussionThat was the first part on that page and the next bit was naming another pollutant gas apart from SO2, then finally the problems with acid rain (I think)(Original post by Big-Daddy)

Re: iGCSE 2012 Chemistry Discussion
I put sulphuric acid so - 1
I put element instead of compound for haematite and CaCO3 so -2
Aluminium electrolysis cost = electricity -1
Probably lost -6 marks after that (some where else :-))
Total -10
Adding up my loss i get total -22 loss which means I could still lose 14 more and comfortably get an A* -
I doubt they would... You need sulphur trioxide yhrough the contact process before you get sulphuric acid - just burning sulphur wont do.(Original post by Umackjiggles)

Why is the cost of the electricity incorrect for electrolysis? I thought that was the MAIN cost and the replacement of the anodes was the other (not so major) cost...?

Re: iGCSE 2012 Chemistry DiscussionNo It is the correct answer - I got it wrong(Original post by Coco406)

Sorry if I confused you! -
Re: iGCSE 2012 Chemistry Discussionyeah someone said that there was so need for us to collectively remember it because he single handedly could but he hasnt put it up soo :L(Original post by cocopoppy)
hey did someone say that they were going to put up the mark scheme? -

Re: iGCSE 2012 Chemistry Discussion
Basically, I have been asked to tutor a boy that is doing the qualfication (IGCSE is Double Science.) However, Im not sure which chapters of the book are for the Science double award and which ones only have to be learnt for the Biology Science award. Same for chem! No idea which ones are needed for the double award and which are only needed for the single award!
He has this book:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Edexcel-Inte...0588368&sr=8-6
Also, his school is saying that if he flukes his mocks, he is only gonna do a single award. Is this even possible? I didnt know that edexcel did a double science award in the IGCSE? -
Re: iGCSE 2012 Chemistry DiscussionWhy are you interested in last years' paper?(Original post by StUdEnTIGCSE)

Re: iGCSE 2012 Chemistry DiscussionYour request echoed along the empty room. these people are dead and gone (2012) so create a new thread for next year(Original post by sagi712)
