Re: Southampton Halls Help??
Glen Eyre everytime!
It's the closest to the uni, literally a 5 minute walk down the hill and your on the campus, whereas Wessex Lane halls are a good 15/20 minute walk from campus
Archers Road or 'small halls' are ages away from the uni, at least a 30 minute walk if not longer so I wouldn't even bother looking at those.
So yeah I'd say Glen Eyre, generally the nicest quality wise, closest to uni, and has all the different types of accommodation there i.e en-suite, standard room, enhanced room etc etc etc -
Re: Southampton Halls Help??
Wessex without a doubt. No where near the 15/20 minute walk like curnock said, about 5/10 minutes. Buses come more frequently as well. They are not quite as pretty as Glen Eyre halls but much better atmosphere in my opinion, and far cheaper.
p.s. I would strongly recommend self catered, and en suite is not necessary. Sharing bathroom with 6 strangers may seem daunting at first but they will only be strangers for a few days! you get a sink in your room anyway for teeth cleaning/shaving etc. En suite rooms you have to clean yourself and if your having a flat party - everyone has to go in your room to piss!
p.p.s Monte bar has £2 pints, £1.50 during happy hour! and 60-100mb internet in rooms.Last edited by Piddly; 22-05-2012 at 22:13. -
Re: Southampton Halls Help??
Hey

I've just finished my first year at Soton and can safely say it was one of the best years of my life. I was in Connaught halls and it was absolutely amazing! (Connaught it the catered hall within wessex lane and has about 300 students)
You get breakfast and Dinner monday-friday and get lunch on saturday and sunday.
Even though there's only 300 people you really get a sense of community there and everyone knows eachother and when Connaught go out on nights out we dominate and all tend to go out as a huge group. No other halls have this sense of pride for their halls and it's only because we love it there so much.
One point I may add is that due to the number, (300) you do tend to get a sense that we're a bit like a year at school.. in that there's different clicks and everyone knows everything about everyone BUT in a nice way I guess. But I really think you'd enjoy it there. In other halls I've heard that people are a bit disconnected from the rest of the people in their halls and tend to only get to know those in their block.
The Connaught spirit is so strong that even if you see someone out and about who you've never even spoken to but recognise from Connaught you smile at them. Hope this helps! And bus' come every 10 minutes and it's like a 15 minute walk to campus if you want to walk. Transport is NOT an issue. Monte also tend to have a lot of international students.. not that there's anything wrong with that.. just saying. Ok, well hope this helped.
