Familiarization Visit
Similar to my other post asking about SERE really, would anyone be able to enlighten me as to what goes on on the FV currently? I've read the thread written about FV's from quite a few years ago but wondered if anyone who has been on one more recently would be able to confirm or refute if the process is still the same?
Thanks for anything! -
Re: Familiarization Visit
Firstly - there is no need to start new threads for every thought that comes in to your mind.
Secondly - just go along and get fammed - a fam visit is there to answer questions before the main event. Just keep abreast of current affairs, get fitter and stop fretting. You don't need to know the inner workings of it - part of being an Officer is the ability to adapt and think on your feet. -
Re: Familiarization Visit
I've read this forum for over a year and started the grand total of three threads. I have more than three thoughts per year, I assure you.
I thought preparation was important, hence asking about something I am not aware of any details of. I also thought on forums that specificity was welcomed, hence not starting one thread asking three totally different questions. One refers to a future event, two to people's past experiences of separate parts of training.
I actually think your sarcasm is unwarranted and frankly a bit rude.
I'm just trying to find things out, thought that's what these forums were for... -
Re: Familiarization Visit
and we'll help you as much as we can. Part of that help is trying to tell you that you don't need to worry about every tiny detail as things like the fam visit are designed to give relevant, up to date answers to your questions - far more so than can be answered here. Once you have passed selection, the entire training system is geared to helping you pass, not setting you up to fail. Therefore, you are given every assistance in your efforts.
If you think this is rude, you may well be in for a shock. Military training, even SERE, can be very direct indeed and so is the life beyond.
Would asking why you've only started posting now if you think preparation is important be sarcastic or a valid question?

Re: Familiarization Visit
Also, if you've read this forum for over a year then you should be well aware of how not to elicit that sort of response from the regulars...
And the FV hasn't changed. It is a very simple process: give you boots, do a fitness test and answer your questions. Then you return in a few weeks time all the wiser. It's not there to trip you up. -
Re: Familiarization Visit
Hello Wilf,
I'm afraid that I don't know anything about the fam visit that's of any relevance; it's been a fair few years since I did mine.
However, I can assure you that when you join the RAF you will find that the vast majority of your personal interactions will be more welcoming than the responses you have found here.
Good luck with your SERE course, and I hope to bump into you soon.

Re: Familiarization VisitPersonal interactions, sure, but you surely can't deny that there's a certain degree of bluntness or lack of 'flowery' language when it comes to work related matters. It's not meant to cause offence.(Original post by Andy1973)

ProStacker just preparing you in advance for sort of treatment you are expected to get in training, just accept things as they are and enjoy your SERE :P
