Re: Edexcel A2 musicI feel exactly the same. I love the practical and composition part of the exam, but I hate the analytical part because I don't feel as if it's at all useful in any way. There's too much to learn to get a high mark because you need so much detail and so much different information. If there wasn't 11 pieces it would be different, just one long piece would be so much easier! It's the reason I despise A Level music.(Original post by Caitykinss)
I'm memorising as much as I can. This exam annoys me so much because the essays don't test musical understanding, they test memory. I understand everything about the pieces, I just can't remember it all! -
Re: Edexcel A2 music
I think the only way to compensate the marks that I will lose in listening is to get as high as I can in essays, like literally full marks or just 1 or 2 marks out. Can't afford losing anymore. Really bad at listening. Sometimes, it's easy, sometimes I just don't get any of the answers. Really hope luck is on our side on Friday! Grade 8 aural doesn't help much, because it's much harder than grade 8 aural. but still despite all these, I love music because that's what I initially wanted to study in uni, not for now, but still, if I am given the chance to do so now, I will definitely go for it!

Re: Edexcel A2 music
Comparison should be fine, as long as you look for the obvious differences, which is usually too obvious and we don't take notice of them if you know what i mean. chords, dictation, omg. dictation is better than chords and keys, because they give you the note before and it's usually moves in step to our starting note, or in sequence. Hope they don't give us a nasty dictation with lots of accidentals. chords, just have to listen to the bass line, hope it's a slow piece. True, but I want A*, so the marks in listening test are crucial too.

An A* oh my god! How do you get an A* in music? I'm busting my absolute gut out to get an A (I got 90%) last year but finding it so hard! My offer is AAA and there is a big chance I'll get a B in music and it is k I l l I n g me!(Original post by P.h.o.e.n.i.x.y)

Re: Edexcel A2 musicThat's why I'm saying the marks in listening test are crucial if I want an A* I got 90% as well last year. but it was the composition that pulled my marks down, not my essays. I generally do pretty well in my esssays, timed and not timed. So, I want to get as much as I can for essays in this unit. I really really hope the listening tests are not difficult. I don't need an A* for my offer, just an A will do. But I want to go for A*, coz I just love music.(Original post by laurenlovespink)

Re: Edexcel A2 music
Another thread has brought up an interesting question - Do you guys get clean copies of the anthology or do you get to take your own in? At our school, they give us an anthology each at the beginning of AS and we just have to rub all of our notes out and take it into the exam, however people on a different thread are saying this isn't normally the case.

Re: Edexcel A2 musicWe get clean ones. Some of our scores we use for notes have photocopied notes written on them, so we always get clean ones.(Original post by Caitykinss)

Then again, there's only three of us doing the exam and it's a big year. There's not normally anyone doing Music A2. -
Do you know what you got in your comp this year? My composition pulls me down as well - do you reckon with 90% last year, C in the composition part, high A in performance and a scraped A in this exam I could get an A? I have no clue how the UMS works for music!(Original post by P.h.o.e.n.i.x.y)

Re: Edexcel A2 musicI'd like to know this too! I want to know how badly I'm allowed to do on this exam (really just the aural part, the essays are fine), if I got a B overall last year (5 marks from an A), got 46/50 in my performance and think I did alright on the composition. I need an A.(Original post by laurenlovespink)

It's so annoying my school doesn't tell us what we have got in any of the coursework modules so I literally don't know where I stand! And the UMS is so annoying/confusing! Do you need all AAA too? I hate music a level! Such a shame because I adore music(Original post by Caitykinss)

Re: Edexcel A2 musicTechnically, I need BBC to do Music at Hull, but I won't be happy with that. It was just lucky for me that the uni I liked best was the one with lower grades than I'm capable of(Original post by laurenlovespink)

Re: Edexcel A2 musichmm, no idea really. I'm sure an A is possible since you got 90% in AS. I think. generally you need 480/600 to get an A in total (including AS) My teacher told us that we need about 70% in unit 6 to get an A in A2 or A*, I don't remember. Of course, that is considering you have high scores in unit 4 and 5. To get an A in A2, you need 240/300 in A2, it's 270/300 for A* but if you did well in AS, you might not need as much. This is just a general ums mark needed from my school, for every subject.(Original post by laurenlovespink)

Oh you are so lucky! I did my grade 8 singing last year - I love singing so much! I do it for performance and all my class gets so annoyed as I get high marks for doing relatively nothing haha(Original post by Caitykinss)

Re: Edexcel A2 musicThe aural for my Grade 7 is the only bit I'm worried about too, like in the A2 exam, although it's much easier and I should do fine - I'm just rubbish at sight singing. I'm sure you'll be fine getting an A if you did so well last year. A boy in my school 2 years ago got a B at AS as he completely messed his composition up and didn't stick to the brief, and came out with an A* overall at A2. It's definitely possible(Original post by laurenlovespink)
