Durham Applicants 2013 entry
Welcome to the University of Durham forum: where prospective and current students can discuss everything from the differences between colleges to the nightlife, an abundance of Rahs to the Stockton campus.

Re: Durham Applicants 2013 entryYeah, I think that's it really. Durham are in the position of being a very good university who don't interview, and hence their popular courses (English, History and the like) are known for being exceptionally competitive. Stories of successful applicants to Oxbridge who were rejected from places like Durham are not rare I believe.(Original post by Llewellyn)
So I guess it's just AS grades + GCSEs + Personal Statement? I suppose that works okay for anyone who has a good application on paper... but choosing candidates for arts and humanities courses must be quite difficult.
Looking at their website, Durham say that they are looking for well-rounded people (basically) so I think the Personal statement must have quite a bit of weighting. -
Hi, Name: Jack, Course: Accounting and Finance, College: not too sure yet and I don't have a first choice; between Durham queensbelfast and reading. Currently studying: Maths English Lit Psychology History However I'm
Not sure if I can get in due to my gcse grades. Can someone help and tell me whether 2 As, 9 Bs, 1 C and 2 Ds is good enough. Since gcse I have advanced my game in ALevel and got AAA in jan exams. Yet will my gcse grades bring my chances down? x

Recently decided that I don't want to be doing a job that will probably be 'officey' but do something that interests and excites me but my A-Levels do not allow for a physics degree so the foundation will have to be taken. -

Name: Simone
Course applying for: History
College applying for: -
Studying currently: in September I'm starting an HEFC course run by Northumbria University, I'll be studying History, British Politics and Psychology.
1st choice?: Yes.
I'd absolutely love to go to Durham, but as I had a horrible time at school. I was Bullied, spent almost a year with a home tutor after being attacked and going back to a unit for people who had been out of main stream education for medical issues or bullying, and I achieved 4 GCSE's between January and June, which is shamefully the most anyone who attended that unit has ever had, but was not enough to be allowed onto an A Level course, I'm doing HEFC and I'm hoping they'll help me find ways to build my UCAS points up and get into a great university, I'm not super hopefully but I'm crossing my fingers I'll finally get to where I'd like to be. -

Re: Durham Applicants 2013 entryYep - I failed. The examiner was really lovely and she kept on trying to help me in the oral part, which just made me even more embarrassed(Original post by SrijanParmeshwar)
Wow, that is amazing. Have you had your exam yet?
Glad to get it over with tbh! -
Re: Durham Applicants 2013 entryAwh well it is nice to be finished with any exam, but I'm thankful I'm not doing any music exams(Original post by Llewellyn)

Re: Durham Applicants 2013 entryWon't you be living there?(Original post by Etoile)
I visited Sheffield the other day and it was really far and Durham is even further and it's just too difficult/expensive to get to (I'd probably have to fly to get there in a day) so I've decided not to apply after all :/ Good luck with your applications everyone!
