i went through a gallery of about 150 pics from a local tatoo parlour and apart from about 5 which seemed to have some kind of meaning, they were all attrocious, looked ugly and gross. there was even one with a FATASS TWILIGHT TATOO across the belly.
yeahh but it isn't fair to judge all tattoos based on what you saw from one low level parlour...you have to do your research and find true artists and the reason that tattoos really are an artform and i guess i might be slightly biased but i watch my mum slave over drawings for hours on end and I've even tried out a tattoo machine and i can say for a fact that putting a tattoo on someone is not an easy thing to do but some people do still make shocking attempts at them

that is not what i am judging on, the majority of tattoos in my experience are either extremely generic and bland and i am indifferent to them (e.g. the star or cheesy sayings, possibly translated into another language (ugly)) or they are ugly and chavvy and cringey.

there are SOME that are very good pieces of art (these are in the tiny minority) however i still do not like them because i think they stain the human body and are ugly even if very pretty on their own.

the only ones i find acceptable are the ones with meaning, eg. i saw a man who had been stabbed in the stomach like 1cm to the left he would have died, he had a tattoo with some word like alive or life made out of a knife where he was stabbed, can't describe it but it was clever.

but whatever this is my opinion, each to their own. if you want to get a tattoo get one.

the tattoo parlour i was looking at wasn't some low rent one by the way it was very professional i give a lot of credit to the artist there they are very good at drawing or whatever it's called because there were some very intricate designs but i think tattoos are just ugly.

fair enoughh ...nah i wasn't saying your opinion was wrong cos obviously everyone is entitled to their views and i agree that chavvy generic ones really aren't nice and they annoy me because they seem to be out there in the masses bringing down the name of tattoos that are actually brilliant.
personally i don't think they make the human body more ugly, its just another form of canvas

My boyfriend recently got a tattoo without telling me, and I nearly fell over when I saw it. It is a big owl on the underneath of his forearm, I hated it. That was about two months ago now, and it grew on me, I can't imagine him without it now, it feels like its always been there!

i to disagree, not all male tattoos are aggressively styled my dad has a beautiful flowing phoenix over his shoulder...its powerful at the same time but not aggressive at all
Well in that case I'd find the tattoo confusing, wondering why he got it - since the preconception is that men get tattoos for B&W stylistic stuff, or aggressive things.

Something feminine and beautiful on a guy is a bit.. strange, imo

edit: so why did your dad get this phoenix tattoo?

so you're saying we should all just do what we is expected of us?? i never once mentioned that it was feminine but as a piece of art it is beautiful....he got it because phoenix is my brothers middle name, it is carrying an amber pendant because amber is my middle name and it is set against a dramatic sky because sky is my sisters middle name

No, but since tattoo's are generally got for expressing an element of their personality to people they meet, something which could be confusing might work against you. For example, if I got a pink flower tattoo'd on my arm, people would view me differently to if I got a flaming skull

in that case you only have the ones that you want to represent who you are on show. But tattoos are a personal thing imo and are an expression of personality but they aren't for other people so if you get them with other peoples views in mind then what does that say about you

I especially hate it when a friend or anyone shows off their tattoo and I feel like I have to say "wow that's so nice" or something. I usually just don't say anything whilst trying not to let the cringe show on my face
Aye, that's a tough one.. especially when you have taken a vow of honesty.. I just can't bring myself to be so insincere I end up lying, so I'll typically say something weak like "that's an interesting design" or "that reminds me of [something]" or if I'm really short on ideas, a throw-away "cool"

I didn't know these existed until you mentioned them.. clearly I need to get out more (or not, in this case, wtf!?)

I appreciate art work when it's on paper or canvas, but not much when it's on skin since I don't see any benefits of carving something on your body :/

from a description it might sound lame but in real life its amazing...he's getting it done by Louis Molloy who is a friend of my mum and is also one of the best tattoo artists around (known for David beckhams famous back tattoo and for his tv series London ink)

No no, the design sounds epic, I just think it's lame to stain the skin to get a point across, unless you're a voodoo shaman/cultist or something

i voted that i have no tats and think that they add something to men only, but by that i mean CAN add something. some tattoos are just hideous to start with, and imo they all start to look pretty bad once people reach the age of around 60.

[I]Strangely, the overwhelming majority of women who have tats themselves seem to think sizable tats only tend to add something to men.
