Extended Essay

Hi people,

Just found this newsgroup.....looks kickass! Well, my extended essay is
due next week and I'm adding the finishing touches to it. I was
wondering whether anyone had tips about layout and referencing

Also, specific to physics, the subject for my EE, how did people with
graphs include them......did you put them as close as possible to places
that you mentioned them in the experiments or did you include them in a
special graphs section?

Thanx

layout: be absolutely anal about EVERYTHING, if you have headingas in
bold size 14 arial, have ALL headings in bold size 14 arial. If all your
grapghs start with fig#:, then make sure ALL of them do the same.

referencing, I personally went for the science research paper style of
giving each reference a number like [1] etc... and just put that number
at the end of sentences referenced eg: blah blah stuff blah [2], [3],
[5]. and then have in my reference section:
[6] J. Doe etc... following the IB guidelines however it looks like most
people go for the humanities style of putting a little number in
superscript and having a footnot at the bottom of the page with full
details of the referenced book (or ibid if it was the same as the
last book) I personally found this very wasteful as I was switching
between books a lot.

Well I did a Computer science article with LOTS of graphs so I generally
put them in a spot after the point of reference but on the same page so
that the examiner could refer to it without flipping back and forth. In
the text, I just put a (refer to fig #) in the text. I also, put as much
info as I could in graphs and tables as they did not count for the word
count. A graph really is worth about 150-200 words
