Re: Gov & Pol A2 - Political Ideologies - 11th June 2012
I think it's highly likely that there will be a 45 mark question on socialism, as it's the only ideology which has twice been selected as the 'two shorts and no essay' one in the life of this specification so far...
These A2 G&P exams are my hardest ones... just did a practice 15 mark short on conservatism 'How and why have conservatives objected to social equality?', then had a look at a mark scheme/model answer/examiner's comment and noticed I had missed half the stuff out...
Only 17 days until this exam as well! Good luck

Re: Gov & Pol A2 - Political Ideologies - 11th June 2012Considering this is purely on ideologies and not on an application, I would be very surprised if they asked anything that related to a real life example.(Original post by apsch)
In liberalism, maybe something about the Lib Dems joining the Coalition and are they pursuing classical or modern liberal ideals?
Remember this is purely on the ideology itself and thus is more likely to be along the lines of 'Modern Liberals have departed completely from liberalism and can now be considered socialist. Discuss'
I wouldn't try and focus too much on examples like the one you've come up with in the exam or you could lose a lot of marks! -
Re: Gov & Pol A2 - Political Ideologies - 11th June 2012Tell me about it :| . I'm re-sitting this one.
Also, I agree with the socialism point, it was the topic not to come up in January's exam which means its incredibly likely to come up on this one.
Does anyone have a list of the questions asked in January?
I can't remember them

Does anyone have a list of the questions asked in January?
I can't remember them
1 On what grounds have conservatives defended authority?
2 In what sense do socialists have a positive view of human nature?
3 How does the anarchist view of the state differ from the Marxist view?
4 On what grounds have socialists criticised the liberal view of equality?
5 How is liberalism linked to rationalism, and what are the implications of this link?
6 To what extent is the New Right internally coherent?
7 ‘Modern liberals have abandoned individualism and embraced collectivism.’ Discuss.
8 To what extent do anarchists agree about the nature of the future anarchist society?
I really don't like those long questions... I'd probably have done Q7 but I don't like it that much! I think I'll probably do the socialism essay (if it's nice), or a conservatism one (seeing as January 2012's was on the New Right, maybe next week's paper will have a nicer question!).
In 7 days this exam will have been done!Last edited by iMe; 04-06-2012 at 11:30. -
Re: Gov & Pol A2 - Political Ideologies - 11th June 2012yes, because there's a fair bit of overlap between them, especially liberalism/conservatism, anarchsim/socialism and socialism/liberalism. you could probably scrape an A or B because the grade boundaries are so low without revising all four though(Original post by lettucesoap)
Is everyone revising all 4 topics? I'm thinking of just doing 3 to save time.. -
Re: Gov & Pol A2 - Political Ideologies - 11th June 2012If socialism comes up in section B, which one do you think they'll drop? D'you think it might be anarchism?(Original post by iMe)
Unit 3B from January 2012

Re: Gov & Pol A2 - Political Ideologies - 11th June 2012I can't say for sure, it's possible but it could be any of them... I really hope it's not conservatism though, I really want a conservatism long, but it's possible(Original post by lettucesoap)
If socialism comes up in section B, which one do you think they'll drop? D'you think it might be anarchism?
-
Re: Gov & Pol A2 - Political Ideologies - 11th June 2012I know people that did that in January and were screwed over as they didn't do any socialism and were stuck in Section A as they had to do one of the questions with socialism.(Original post by lettucesoap)

Heywood has shown himself to mix it up, there's no guarantee you'll be safe just doing 3.
However, if you want to save time, just learn 3 really well and make sure you know enough about the 4th ready for if a similar situation arises again.

Re: Gov & Pol A2 - Political Ideologies - 11th June 2012dont think they will miss out anarchism(Original post by lettucesoap)

very likely to be 45 and 15 marker
they seem to miss out liberalism in the summer
(perhaps cos its the easiest/most popular ideology)
who knows

Re: Gov & Pol A2 - Political Ideologies - 11th June 2012
Usually 15 markers are about how an ideology links to one of its core ideas, or explaining why they support/how far they support them. Usually a page and a half will do. Was that what you were asking?
Apparently they're low, not entire sure though :s -
Re: Gov & Pol A2 - Political Ideologies - 11th June 2012About 60/90 for A*(Original post by lettucesoap)

54-57/90 for A
( thus my theory of learning one ideology very well 45+15= A -
Re: Gov & Pol A2 - Political Ideologies - 11th June 2012How does that work? You're asked to do 3 questions, if you have revised 3 ideologies (liberalism/conservatism/anarchism) then surely you would just do those 3 questions?(Original post by ILM16)

Ahh i see what you mean now.. the anarchism and marxism question - thats fair enough, but if you do anarchism in the text book, it explains the links and differences of the two regarding the state.. -
Re: Gov & Pol A2 - Political Ideologies - 11th June 2012If you do only 3 ideologies, you are taking a big gamble. There is always one ideology missing from the 45 markers, and that missing ideology will be the basis of two 15 mark questions, meaning that you have to answer at least one of them.(Original post by IngensPolyspaston)

Re: Gov & Pol A2 - Political Ideologies - 11th June 2012I don't see that; say that socialism was missing from 45 markers, and there were 2 socialism questions in the 15 markers - then I will do the other 3 questions and have a choice of all 3 out of the 45 markers. Worst case scenario is I would have to do a question in an ideology i have revised that i don't like the look of, but then if i have revised them thoroughly that shouldn't be an issue. Besides, it would only be an issue - if you can call it that - if socialism was the one omitted from the 45 markers, but there are 3 other ideologies. So say if liberalism was omitted, i would have a choice of 2 of my preferred 45 markers and a choice of 4 15 mark questions (the one left out being socialism).(Original post by exe)

Thats how I see it anyway, providing I - which I believe i have - have covered the 3 sufficiently, i don't see the big issue. -
