SAAS funding for EU postgraduate students?
Hey all
I'm currently trying to find out if I am eligible to get a SAAS funding.
The SAAS homepage says I need to contact the faculty directly but they don't get back to me, so I'm trying here.
The facts:
- I'm German, 25 years old
- I'm doing a postgraduate study
- I'm studying MSc International Strategic Marketing at the Busines School
- I'm need to pay the Home fees of £7,500 for 2012/2013
Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance! -
Re: SAAS funding for EU postgraduate students?
Hey there!
I seem to encounter the same problem. Upon registering on the SAAS website, I got a message advising me to ask my university for an application form.
I am French, 22 years old. I will be studying creative writing at the University of Glasgow next year. I was hoping SAAS might help me with my tuition fees (not quite as high as yours, but still...).
I contacted my faculty, they said they don't have application forms (apparently, last year, postgraduate students were able to apply online) and that I should contact the SAAS staff. I sent them an e-mail this morning. I'll make sure to let you know as soon as they answer.
So, to be continued, I guess...
Cheers!

Re: SAAS funding for EU postgraduate students?
Hey there!
This just in from SAAS :
"SAAS only provide funding for certain vocational postgraduate diploma courses. We do not fund Masters courses.
A full list of courses we support at Postgraduate level are listed here.
Unfortunately, the course you are interested in is not SAAS supported.
You should contact your course leader who should have information regarding any funding available for your particular course. More information on Postgraduate study is also available at www.prospects.ac.uk."
Not sure I know what to do with that. I think that's about it for me, but if I'm not mistaken, your course is on the list, so... fingers crossed for you!
Maybe you should contact SAAS yourself because, as my course is not funded anyway, they didn't bother answering my question about the application form.
Let me know how this goes.
Good luck!

Re: SAAS funding for EU postgraduate students?
So apparently my course is eligible for funding but the funding is a student loan which you need to pay back, and I don't want anything like that.
I think it's rather stupid. There are a lot of different scholarships but nothing that I can apply for as a German.
Not cool at all.
Tell me if I'm mistaken. -
Re: SAAS funding for EU postgraduate students?
@BostonLegal: That's not how I meant it. I meant to say that there are a lot of scholarships for UK and non-EU people, but none for me.
@Norton1: Yes, there are quite a few scholarships for people doing their Phd, but I'm doing a MSc.
I'm just saying that there's been funding last year and this year all you get is a student loan. -
Re: SAAS funding for EU postgraduate students? So you're getting a loan? If so I don't see the problem.(Original post by Lori1987)

Re: SAAS funding for EU postgraduate students?Well that is how it could certainly have come across, so thank you for the clarification.(Original post by Lori1987)

.
If you can't get support from your own government, and are not prepared to pay back a loan (which, in itself, is more than generous in my opinion), then perhaps look at other countries like Sweden, etc. which have free Master's programmes for EU students.Last edited by BostonLegal; 14-06-2012 at 12:22.
