Re: Who here likes Hummus? Thanks for the suggestion, I think I'll try again. In the past I have picked it up from the kosher section because the ones there had chickpeas and olive oil and stuff on top but my mum would always scoff the lot before I had the chance!(Original post by zara55)
Ha, you have my (and probably our) sympathies, Tesco hummus, only one step up from Aldi hummus, which is a sort of indescribably tasteless mush.
Can I suggest going to Marks or Waitrose and trying one of their excellent ranges? Might change your outlook.

Re: Who here likes Hummus?Yep, but I don't know about "purified" - according to Wikipedia, they are cooked and mashed.(Original post by Raza098)
Is this that thing you dip pita bread it? Purified chick peas?

Re: Who here likes Hummus? It has like herbs in the actual houmous and then chickpeas, peppers, other stuff and I think a bit of chilli on the top in kind of a blob. Try it, I promise you it's amazing!(Original post by zara55)
What's the "topped one" from Sainsburys, which one do you mean? -

Re: Who here likes Hummus?Yeah, we could elect someone to be Chick Pea. Second-in-command would be Lemon Flavour. And so on.(Original post by Ursin)

The English word hummus comes from Turkish humus meaning the hummus food dip or spread, which in turn comes from Arabic حمّص ḥummuṣ, in turn derived from ḥimmaṣ "chickpeas".[3] The earliest known attestation for hummus in English is in 1955.[4] Spellings of the word in English can be inconsistent.[5] Among the spellings are hummus, hummous houmous, hommos, humos, hommus, hoummos, etc. The spelling humus is generally avoided in English as it is a homonym of humus (organic matter in soil), though this is the usual Turkish spelling[5] and the Oxford English Dictionary indicates the word entered the English language from Turkish.[4] -
Re: Who here likes Hummus?taramasalata(Original post by cardine92)
I like it but I've never really loved it, probably because my childhood was middle class enough to be force fed pitta and hummus but not so middle class that my mum wouldn't pick up the bland cheap one from Tescos. I still have the horrible memories of the florescent pink mush that is taramasalata. I prefer tzatziki.
Please don't judge me
