Asus Transformer - opinions from users
I'm thinking of getting a transformer (most likely the TF300, via USA) over the summer, and just want to know people's experiences.
With the dock is it an effective laptop replacement for basic writing/browsing tasks? I aim to keep my laptop in the house as it's a bit much to lug around with a load of books, and use the transformer around uni. Logically a netbook makes sense, but it seems pointless to have a netbook and a laptop. So..
-is the quoted 15 hour battery life (with dock) accurate?
-is the keyboard any good for extended typing (say 4-6 hours)
-how reliable is it?
-if yours as broken, is ASUS customer service as bad as the rumours suggest?
-can you hook it up to an external keyboard and mouse easily?
-how easy it is to switch windows rapidly? I often have a PDF and Word open at once - I realize android doesnt support split screen (although there is a split-screen browser) so i may need to flick back and forth.
Thanks -
Re: Asus Transformer - opinions from users
I got the TF101 last August and it's fantastic for everything I need it to do. I doubted the 15-16 hour battery life at first, but after using it to listen to music and type for 6 hours in the car once while my phone was plugged in and charging as well, the dock battery was at 5% and the tablet itself was still 100%, so it's fairly accurate.
Switching between windows can be done with two taps, there's just a side menu that shows a scroll list of every open window. It's not as intuitive as iOS but it's not bad. The typing is similar to typing on a macbook or any laptop with shallow keys, just smaller. It's definitely more comfortable than typing on the screen and the trackpad is better than most notebooks. I haven't tried to set up any peripherals, so I can't help you there, and nothing's gone wrong so I don't have any experience with ASUS customer service!
(hope this helped, I'd definitely recommend them

Re: Asus Transformer - opinions from usersThanks, that's great. Since I posted I've found a great remote desktop app called splashtop HD - tried it on my (rather old) phone and its fast enough for typing and even video and audio - so the split screen wont even be an issue as I can use my laptop at home from anywhere with wifi via the transformer.(Original post by Damask-)
