Bit of a shoegaze revival on at the minute, though it seems to have been amalgamated with Krautrock in the case of The Horrors and S.C.U.M (if they count).(Original post by velvetbrain)
Hell yes! Bring back 90's shoegaze! -

Didn't really like the latest Horrors album, I really enjoyed Primary Colours though

Has nobody posted dance with the devil? It doesn't give anyone goosebumps (music doesn't do that, it would be pretty messed up if you got goosebumps from listening to music) but is really ****ed up.

Sadly YouTube sound quality isn't the best, but this (for me, at least) is one of the most moving pieces of music ever written. Honestly, it doesn't matter what genre of music you normally like, you can appreciate it. IMHO, Narciso Yepes plays this better than anyone, and the full CD quality version is incredible.
This is just the second movement (Adagio) of the whole Concierto (de Aranjuez), and is best listened to as a part of the entire thing, but is great on its own too. Apparently this movement was written as a response to his wife having a miscarriage, which I think makes it all the more poignant.
EDIT: Also, having listened to this recording the whole way through, it actually isn't as good as another that Yepes did (the one I own on CD). Still, take nothing away from it, it's still amazing!Last edited by FrogInABog; 16-06-2012 at 17:04. -

'Marlene' by Jackson C. Frank.
He wrote it about his girlfriend who died when a boiler exploded at his school when he was 10. His whole life story is the saddest I've ever heard - recorded one album that set the standards for singer/songwriters, his son died of cystic fibrosis, ended up homeless, depressed, drifting in and out of institutions, then when he was about to make a comeback he got shot in the eye, then died of cardiac arrest and pneumonia.
'And though the fire it burned her life out
It left me little more, I am a crippled singer
And it evens up the score.'
Shivers every time.
