Ive been out in leeds a few times now and must say the ngihtlife there seems pretty decent.

I am a fan of big mainstream style clubs so oceana and o2 academy are a dream to me.

Are there any equivalents through the week in sheff?

I thought sheffield was a runty little thing not worthy of mention other than a wart on the rump of south yorkshire but checking the population stats I see I may have been a little quick to judge as its population seems quite respectable on further viewing.

So whats the nightlife there like, Ive never been? Lots of clubs? how about in the week? do they compare to leeds or they dont have a chance against 'the uk's second financial capital'?

I don't know what Leeds being the Uk's second financial capital has got to do with it, but I've heard that nights out in both cities are really good - probably largely due to the large proportion of students in both. Leeds is probably more well known for the 'party' rep, much bigger but Sheffield is probably fairly close on it's tails.

I went to sheffiled today and must say its a lovely city, I prefer it to leeds I'd say in terms of aesthetics and layout, but couldnt say about the nightlife as ive never been out there.

Also its smaller so if Im gonna decide itll prob be leeds due to size and me already knowing its good nightlife wise. Tho Id consider maybe living in sheffield someday if I tire of leeds cos its a real beauty of a city from my perusal today.

I'm at uni in Sheffield but have gone out in Leeds a few times as my friend is there.

A typical Sheffield week (Sheffield uni, Hallam tend to go elsewhere)

Mon - Leadmill, 80p drinks, "indie" room and pop room

Tues - Tuesday club, never been but it's a dubstep night, or Plug for chart music

Wed - Corp, extremely cheap/strong drinks, grimey place but a good night out. or Roar, which is the sportsclub night at the union

Thurs- Plug, cheap drinks, chart music, sumo suits.

Fri - Leadmill, again 80p drinks, or Propaganda at the O2 academy - The Harley is also good over the weekend for house music and a chilled night.

Sat - Pop Tarts at the union, student night at Replica, or alternative music night at Corp

Sun - West Street/Carver Street

You could do west street/carver street any night really, there is Babylon which is a 90s club, Weststreet Live and Basement do really cheap drinks, and there are loads of little bars and clubs.

Leeds is more expensive and it is bigger, but you can have a good night out in Sheffield.

I am thinking of perhaps doing a 'pilgrimage of the north' and checking out sheffield maybe to live at some point and/or other hop over for a night or two beforehand.

We'll see just how busy leeds keeps me .

How long have you been at the uni for? Is it nice, its my insurace choice and I really what to know what the nightlife is like and how the uni compares on a day to day?

I dunno, my boyfriend goes to Hallam and he usually went out at similar places

I live near Sheffield and it's a great party city. Every day except Sunday and Wednesday are good for partying is what I've found from experience. There are about...4 clubs I think and lots of bars including bars that have dance floors. I've had great nights out in Sheffield. It's a great place to live.

Edit: However, I am not a student yet and my only experience of clubbing has been in Sheffield and in Year 13 so take what you will from what I say.
