Housemates house party and exams
Hi
I have a major problem.
I have an exam on Wednesday morning at 9am. Im in my final year of university so obviously its very important.
However, some house mates want to have a house party tomorrow night. I wasnt invited, we don't get along, but its not a bad relationship, we just don't talk.
They were like ' its only from 7 to midnight why are you moaning?'
Thats not the point, im going to be cram revising and craping myself over the exam.
So basically they told me tonight and i've spent it crying and feeling down.
Ive tried talking, begging, and even offered them £20 to have it on Wednesday night instead.
The were like I think not and said if I want to revise to go to the library, never mind its a 30 minute walk away with no public transport and I hate revising in the library. I like my private room, on, my own in the quiet.
What can I do?
Please help I am feeling so down, and like I will fail my exam.

Re: Housemates house party and exams
I've always worked best in the evening. Also I plan to revise all day as well.
Im seriously cramming as I don't feel like I know enough about the exam
Also I want to study in my room on my own. I don't see why I shouldnt be allowed to do this. I've just been crying all night

Re: Housemates house party and exams
Unfortunately there is nothing you can do if they are going to do it anyways. Very unfair of your housemates, but some people suck like that.
I know you may work best at night but you're gonna have to work in the day on tuesday as well and just hope you can do something on the night. If not watch a film and chill before the exam. Or invest in headphones and try and drown out as much of the music as possible. Go to a friends house nearby?
I'd be more worried about when they come in from their night out, are they the type to come in quietly? I hope they understand after midnight you really need your rest. Good luck for your exam though, I'm sure you know more than you think

Re: Housemates house party and exams
I don't blame you. It would seriously annoy me too.
As they won't listen (have you actually tried sitting down talking to them?) there's nothing you can do really. I'd properly plan my day out, so that by the time of the party I'd be just reading over notes and hopefully be not too stressed. Can you lock your door and wear ear plugs or something? -

Re: Housemates house party and examsI live on campus in university owned accommodation so I can phone the office or the porter if it's noisy during exam period. In fact we have a university wide quiet period and fines for noise are doubled - I'm assuming because you've said housemates that this kind of thing wouldn't apply to you, but if anyone else is having a similar problem and they live on campus then that might be relevant to them.
I would say if there isn't any way to stop them to go out and buy some earplugs. It's cheaper than the £20 you were offering them as well. Lock your door (if it doesn't lock then put a doorstop under it while its closed and nobody will be able to get in), take food and drinks in with you and only leave if you need the loo (obviously this won't apply if you have an ensuite, but I'm assuming you don't).
Sorry to hear they're being pains, but you just have to try and work around it if there's nothing you can do to stop it. I do like ELs123's idea of getting your own back though when they have exams... -
Re: Housemates house party and exams
That sucks. Sounds like you'll have to get on with it if the library or going elsewhere isn't an option. Just ask them to make sure it doesn't get too loud. Maybe running out and getting some earplugs? I think you're best option is going to the library, not ideal but better than trying to deal with loud music.

Re: Housemates house party and exams
Thanks guys.
One person has an exam tomorrow the other in two weeks time when I will already have gone home. They don't seem to care about the importance of exams.
I did try sitting down and talking to them but they don't care. Its hard to believe some people have absolutely no feelings for others.
The living room is below my room and the floor boards are paper thin. I can hear someone having a normal level conversation, never mind anything else.
I suffer very badly with stress and my emotions. Some people call it weakness but I just cant help it. -
Re: Housemates house party and exams
you arent invited to a houseparty in your own house rofl ? ya need to stick up for yourself jeez. just join the party and have convos about your work to the peeps. if they are drunk they might listen who knows haha ;p what about playing your own music in your room to block out the party music? though that only works if you like listening to music and revising

Re: Housemates house party and examsTaking the fuses out of the plugs might be a safer idea, then you've not actually damaged anyone's property.(Original post by Anonymous)
Also not sure I should follow my father advice of taking a baseball bat to the speakers lol. -
Re: Housemates house party and examsLots of students end up moving in with randomers because they can't find anywhere to live in second or third year. If you end up moving into a house with a spare room advertised on your university's accommodation forum without knowing the people living there it's pot luck whether you'll get on with them or not.(Original post by 4RealBlud)
Why are you housemates with such inconsiderate *******s in the first place? Surely your third year housemates should be your friends, friends who you can rely on?
Try to revise at your friend's
Bear in mind that some people, like myself, prefer revising on their own rather than with a 'study buddy' . If I was in his situation, I'd buy a pair of earplugs, and if there's too much noise after midnight I'd leave my room and shout "SHUT THE **** UP I HAVE AN EXAM TOMORROW"!
Other than that, good luck :P -
Re: Housemates house party and exams
Its a long story, basically I didnt have a great first year for a number of reasons.
I had some semi-good aquaintences who I got with for a house for the third year and contracts were signed in September, as in September 2010 for this the 2011/12 academic year.
The house is nice and we were ok with each other at the time. In this area all the good houses go really early and I didnt want to end up living with strangers like I did in year 2.
In the end my housemates from year two (who I didn't know) became really good close friends.
We go out together all the time, visit eachothers homes (bareing in mind we all live at least 2 hours from eachother) and theres even talk of staying together after uni. (Though they live a good 20 minute walk away in my uni town)
I really wish I lived with them this year as well
Think I may just have to bare it. Maybe go to the library even though its forcast rain and I won't do any work

But i like your earplug and shouting idea, inconsiderate *******s deserve it

I was in a similar situation when I lived in halls. It was 1am, I had an exam at 9:30 and I couldn't sleep. Then I heard the person in the room above mine having sex, so I knocked on her door and said "Keep the noise down! I've got an exam at 9 tomorrow!" -
