    A2 German AQA!
    Hiya there,

Am finishing my A-Level in German this year (have been doing a distance learning course and started the A-Level last September), got a high A in my AS in January but only got a B in my A2 mock I did last week, although was only 8 marks off an A, mainly due to the cultural essay. My tutor said my oral exam was 'not bad' but mainly due to the fact she would have liked to have asked more questions apparently!

Would you say I still have a chance of getting an A over all for the A-Level?

It's been a while since you posted and nobody's replied yet...maybe you should check out MarkedbyTeachers.com, TSR's sister site. It has the largest library of essays in the UK.

They've got over 181,000+ coursework, essays, homeworks etc.. all written by GCSE, A Level, University and IB students across all topics. You get access either by publishing some of your own work, or paying £4.99 for a month's access. Both ways give you unlimited access to all of the essays.

All their documents are submitted to Turnitin anti-plagiarism software, so it can't be misused, and the site's used by hundreds of thousands of UK teachers and students.

What's more, you can take a look around the site and preview the work absolutely free. Click here to find out more...

In the end, what grades you get for each module don't mean a lot, because you add all the UMS up. It would be useful to find out how many UMS you have so far out of 200 (if you still have your AS results sheet it should be on there). Overall you need 320 for an A, and you can use this site to take your raw mark out of 110 for the written paper and convert it into UMS. The UMS boundaries change each year depending on how everyone did but you can get a general idea.

    Here's how it adds up:
    AS Written - 140
    AS Oral - 60
    A2 Written - 140
    A2 Oral - 60

    A* - 360
    A - 320
    B - 280

I can't remember what the others are but if you're aiming for an A then you just need to know you need 320 overall.

It's certainly possible for you to get an A, especially if you got a high A for your AS.

Say you got 180 for AS, and then 45 for your A2 speaking (which is about a B), you'd only need 95 for your written, which may even be a high C/low B (as I said, UMS boundaries change).

Try to figure out what you've already got and what you'll need, you may be pleasantly surprised! I'm obsessed with UMS as it can tell you what grade you're already on before you even take your final exam

I suggest reading the Examiner's reports for guidance on the essays, very insightful.

Out of interest where did you find them? I can only find ones for unit 2 and unit 4
Under "Reports on the Examination" on this page:

Looking at the Exemplar work in the Teacher Resource Bank is pretty helpful too, the essays come with commentary.

I'm doing "Das Leben der Anderen" for my writing. I am going to try revise all grammar, learn key vocabulary and key points about the film. What you planning to do?

I was thinking maybe themes or techniques would come up. Or something really specific because in the past they have all been really general, like what do you like about the film or what is the most interesting aspects. So i think this tie they might try narrow it down which means it will probably be more specific and harder

I don't really know any techniques tbh, I just know the main goals of the film so I'm hoping that doesn't come up. Mind I hope the question isn't too disastrous to the point where I don't understand it lol. In a way themes are technically like goals though so I wouldn't mind if themes come up.

I just had my spanish exam today and what was really hard was making the essay answer fit the question, because they asked about why the director is successful. So I had to try and fit my ideas to the question :/ Im worried that will be the case with german, that would be terrible!

What do you mean by goals? Do you mean what Donnersmarck wanted to do in the film?

the GDR 1971-1989 and the reunification of germany. We sort of got to pick back in july between that and why the wall went up. Got strongly encouraged towards doing the former.

I so want a question where I can compare and contrast the vorteile/nachteile of the GDR and germany after the reunification.
