Did they let you go in and do it?

I don't think they can disqualify you. The only time they'd make you do a re-sit type thing I guess (with different papers) would be if you had arrived after the exam had finished but I guess that's kind of obvious.

Or maybe if say you had your exam from 9am-12pm and they had something going on in that room at half 12 and you were an hour late then I suppose they might tell you to piss off and re-schedule it with the re-sitters and anybody who was ill or had family issues.

The time scale would be a big issue with re-sits/re-scheduled ones though if you're doing your last A2 exams because you'd need your results at the same time as everybody else to get into uni unless there's some kind of exception made somewhere in the system for people who are ill or whatever.

I am slightly confused by your OP though because surely they'd either let you go in and do the exam and supervise you until it's finished and therefore allow you to take the exam normally or they'd tell you to piss off. Am I missing something?

Dude walked into a 1 hour exam 40 minuets late because he forgot he had it on Friday. Funniest thing I've ever seen. Still let him sit it though. Final year uni exam too.

Yes you are missing something. There are specific exam rules about start times, late arrivals and earliest time students are allowed to leave exams. These are designed to prevent cheating by candidate A entering the exam hall, reading the paper, leaving early and then phoning candidate B with the questions who then starts the exam late. If you arrive too late (ie after candidates in the same or another centre could have already left the room) you may not be allowed to sit the paper or may be disqualified from the exam even if you are allowed to take it.

Oh obviously you wouldn't be allowed in if anybody had already left. That's obvious but I assumed that if nobody has finished yet and they let you come in and do the exam then you'll be fine. Wasn't aware they could disqualify you for lateness after you'd taken it.

If you arrive late for an exam ... the invigilator should inform you that you can take the exam but that the board may not accept your entry

as with the final point on this document
