Edexcel GCSE Music May 2012 - Unofficial Mark Scheme
Hello ex-gcse music students! :P
Lots of people posted their own answers/responses to the exam in the discussion thread... so I say lets concentrate them all onto one tangible entity and create a complete and thorough mark scheme, before Edexcel do!
I'll edit this with given recommendations over the next few days so that the most plausible responses are in there.
This is by no means in animosity to the other pre-existing Edexcel Music thread/s - it's not a discussion thread, but a "contribution" thread of any possible answers or responses.
THANKS FOR ALL THE RESPONSES/DISSENTS/CRITICISMS COMING IN. Remember, it's still a work in progress!

Re: Edexcel GCSE Music May 2012 - Unofficial Mark Scheme
For grace for the second part of the guitar question, would I get the mark if I said that the guitar accompanies with chords and it is more forte?
For the first Moby question i put reverb and delay to make it sound distant and for the last Moby question i said that there is use of EQ and 'these open do-' is repeated twice.
In electric ocunterpoint for the question which asked why it was an apt title, i said because the guitars are at counterpoint with each other at certain points of the piece and there is use of electronic effects, would that get me two marks.
For mozart i wrote that the 3 note motif is inverted and that it is imitated by other instruments.
Would any of these gain the marks available?? Im freaking out that I will miss out on my A* because i got full marks on my coursework
-
Re: Edexcel GCSE Music May 2012 - Unofficial Mark SchemeYep 100%. Checked my score for that.(Original post by Medical-al)
For thew first question in Mozart, are you 100% sure that they were the violins, flutes and the clarinets? -
Re: Edexcel GCSE Music May 2012 - Unofficial Mark SchemeThose are quite plausible, and I've double-checked them, should be accepted.(Original post by astropadro)
For Mozart q 4 could it also be:
Increase in dynamics
Increase in texture
And for moby question 5 simply
Takes away reverb
Takes away echo effect -
Re: Edexcel GCSE Music May 2012 - Unofficial Mark SchemeI agree with all of them, the only one I could question is the "use of electronic effects" response, but edexcel might condone that, so I'll add it.(Original post by Parth96)

Re: Edexcel GCSE Music May 2012 - Unofficial Mark Schemereally? That's great! Which bar did you find it from?(Original post by DrumChops)
Yep 100%. Checked my score for that. -
Re: Edexcel GCSE Music May 2012 - Unofficial Mark SchemeBars 147-152(Original post by Medical-al)
really? That's great! Which bar did you find it from? -
Re: Edexcel GCSE Music May 2012 - Unofficial Mark Scheme
For similarities in the vocal line for Grace, i said use of word painting and glissandos
and i had no idea what the features of a lament were so i wrote that it is sung in gaelic and use of traditional folk instruments (complete stab in the dark).
Any credit for any of the above? -
Re: Edexcel GCSE Music May 2012 - Unofficial Mark SchemeGlissandos, yes, just confirmed that. Why do you say word painting though?(Original post by Parth96)

A lament is an expression of grief... so they might have been looking for features that gave it a sad/despondent tone, like use of a minor key, nonsense syllables, slow tempo etc. -
Re: Edexcel GCSE Music May 2012 - Unofficial Mark SchemeYeah should do.(Original post by Parth96)
and will synthesizers be accepted for the Moby question?
Thinking about it, I suppose so, like the lengthened note/s on "slow"(Original post by Parth96)
In my revision guide, there were a few words highlighted with using word painting and theres at least one word in each verse played that was indicative of word painting -

Would I get marks for use of whammy bar, drop d tuning, ghost whispering, and flanging? (Can't remember what verses I put them on) -
Re: Edexcel GCSE Music May 2012 - Unofficial Mark SchemeThanks for those contributions. Only thing is, Drop-D tuning isn't particularly a playing technique, but a form of intonation, so I wouldn't put my money on it.(Original post by AMfan)

According to my notes, although the esraj can play drones, it doesn't in this piece unfortunately.(Original post by AMfan)
And also for the drone question, I put Esraj, would this be acceptable?
