i thought area was a trapezium and did 1/2(a+b) x h. ---> 1/2(9/2(root5) + (root80)) x (distance between ab and ce) and got 17/4 (root 5). how many marks for method would i get (if any lol) :badger:

    ...Attachment 148645
    \frac{2}{2\sqrt{2} + 2\sqrt{3}} \not= \frac{2}{2\sqrt{2}} + \frac{2}{2\sqrt{3}}

You might get a mark for the right answer but I doubt you'd get any marks for the working as that is incorrect.

I'm kicking myself for some of the stupid mistakes I made. -_- I was really hoping for 100UMS. OH WELL

That said, I'm glad I checked my answers because in the last few minutes I found some of the most idiotic errors in writing things down. 8-) Oh well, that just means I have to practice more for my other Maths. exams. to make up for this.

man same!! whatd you guys think? its 3 marks soo.. would you guys say we'll get maybe 1 or 2 method marks?
    .
I'm hoping we'll only lose one although we might lose two for \frac{90}{2} and the final answer of 45. Thats if they're feeling really harsh about it.. I hope not.

I got those answers, but forgot to convert them. I got 80 for the part A but wrote pounds instead of pence. Also, for B i got 9450, but wrote £9450 instead of £94.50

do you think there is a chance for upgrade since the paper was fairly difficult?

Damn!! I didn't notice the -ve sign in the second indices question! ><
I got the area in q.9 as 45 though!

For q.8 I thought the graph would shift to the left, since it was a -ve graph ??

Overall, I think it was quite good
Hope C2 next week will go better..

Was wondering if anyone else for question 9. D) used the distance line formula used in c2 to prove this question rather than Pythagoras theorem directly or is it likely to lose marks as it wasn't explanatory enough?
Hi I did the same as its much easier my teacher told me it doesn't matter what
method you use as long as the examiner can see some working out the great
thing about maths is if your answer is correct you will get the marks I'm guessing the examiners are all very compitent maths teachers them selves. So you will get your marks

mate for the proof question i forgot to convert £63 to pence, althogh i used the right method - i used the sum of an arithmtic series method and simplified it down to 12.6 instead of 1260 and continued to factorise it, its 4 mark bro, how may marks do you think ive lost?
    Many thanks

I got 10% in last 5 practice papers dropped 12 marks in this one :'(
just cus i did x=2 in (b) got everything else in 9 wrong....
and lost 2 marks elsewhere!! fu#*K that question!!!!!!!!!!!
Each year they add in something a little bit different that's why sometimes it just doesn't matter what you get on past papers, hopefully the boundaries are low like in previous June exams (y)

    I did this too.

DId the exact same thing too haha, the funny thing is our a and b integers are the same as the actual answer.

okay for question 3 : which was 5 marks, i didn't do the same working out. my working out was pretty simple.. do you think i will still get the 5 marks.. because i did get the answer right at the end.

    Question: 2 / square root 12 and 8

    so i did : 2/ square root 4 and 3 (12) and square root 4 and 2 (8)

which is : 2/ 2 square root 3 and 2 square root 2 as the square roots for 4 cancels to 2.

and when you cancel the 2 by the simplified roots, you can out the twos .. which leaves you with square root 3 and 2.

I don't know if that makes any sense to you guys ..

if you dont get it , click on the image- working out. Attachment 148645
A few of us have done that too, our integers are the same as in the final answer but not the form I dont think so we should get credit for getting a and b right.

Cheers for this, Arsey. Just a quick question about number 3: I completely fudged it up - I didn't rationalise and instead broke down the denominator into sqrt(4x3) - sqrt(4x2) --> leading to 2/(2rt3 - 2rt2) --> then cancelling the 2s to be left with rt3 - rt2. I realise this is completely wrong, but would there be ANY credit in this? Because I believe I wrote down the correct a and b values at the end. Cheers.

    (Original post by Tanomc)
I did the same as you and then i multiplied the top and bottom by (2rt3 + 2rt2). This lead to (2rt3 + 2rt2)/1 which means that a=3 and b=2. If you got the answers they will give you the marks because there are many ways of solving the question. If you didn't get the answer you will still probably get method marks.
If what you're saying, kidioteque, is that you did \dfrac{1}{\sqrt{3} - \sqrt{2}} = \sqrt{3} - \sqrt{2} then you will receive possible a mark for taking out the sqrt(4) factor but then no marks for this part or the actual answer.

Best case scenario is I get 73/75, made mistakes on Completing the square (Right values but wrong sign :l) and forgot to flip inequality sign. Worst case is I get 69/75! Hopefully boundaries are low
