Re: OCR A2 Geography - F763 (Global Issues)
i'm also taking this exam on wednesday - only picking earth hazards and development essays (and climatic 10 mks).
just to say - it's the China South-North project (not north-south) - sorry, just that could be kinda vital to get the right way round
there's an ok wikipedia page, basically it's transferring water from the Yangtze to the Yellow and Hui rivers south>north (the north is drier i.e. Gobi desert)
i'm thinking for development essays - one on defining/measuring development seems quite likely because they haven't asked about that at all yet (and they have a policy of covering the whole spec every 3 years i think & this is the third year). any ideas about earth hazards?
good luck

Re: OCR A2 Geography - F763 (Global Issues)
I thought i was really strong on the resource section, but these case studies are really useful, thanks a lot! For the short answer earthquake questions do you guys have any specific management strategies. All i have is emergency aid and the Tokyo disaster plan so i'm really weak on this question!!!!
-
Re: OCR A2 Geography - F763 (Global Issues)hmm i have the same one as you but i also have "strengthening buildings" for long term strategies(Original post by chrisluff)

- solid steel frames
- reinforced concrete
- steel bracers
- to complete, mandatory building codes properly enforced (e.g. Japan - which they learnt from mistakes from the Kobe quake)
for an example - the huge loss of life in the sichuan earthquake was partly due to inadequate enforcement of building codes, shoddy workmanship and poor quiality building materials etc.
or a short-term one maybe like emergency rescue and relief
- rescuing trapped people
- provision of food / water / shelter etc.
- preventing disease
e.g gujurat 1999 - contributions for emergency relief from NGOs such as red cross and gree crescent
hope this helps!

Re: OCR A2 Geography - F763 (Global Issues)sorry mate i dont(Original post by chrisluff)
Yh cheers man that's quite gd. Are you doing climatic hazards, because i was wondering whether they could ask you a management question on cold spells?
only earth hazards, pop and resource and dev and inequalities
-
Re: OCR A2 Geography - F763 (Global Issues)
If the essay question for pop and resources comes up along the lines of 'demand changing with time and location' would i be right with popping these things in the essay?
- uranium development
- the other examples from the book about UK technological advances
- the clark-fisher sector model (nic's, medc's + ledc's) - demand changing depending on what stage the country is in
- location due to physical/climatic conditions such as cold, larger demand for energy
i'm trying to structure some essays!

Re: OCR A2 Geography - F763 (Global Issues)agreed, volcanoes or earthquakes perhaps?(Original post by Eternal Rest)
Any predictions for what will come up as the specific essay question for Earth Hazards?
I think it'll be something to do with Volcanoes.
Probably something to do with the factors influencing their impacts or something to do with their human/physical impacts? hmm i wish i could know now! -
Re: OCR A2 Geography - F763 (Global Issues)
could somebody maybe help me with something?
its for resources - with the case studies regarding technological advances, i have a load but they dont refer to any countries
for example: oil, uranium, bronze, bauxite, fish (little bit on north sea), water (bit on china / aral sea) etc. but i just wrote an essay on it but it simply hardly refers to any specific countries. most of these are broadly speaking on a global scale... and will you get marked down for that?
also if anybody has some good technological advances with specific areas to back it up, please let me know
that would be great!

Re: OCR A2 Geography - F763 (Global Issues)you could use food as an example? The Green Revolution in India, using high yielding variety (HYV) crops. Wheat tripled in production and maize doubled. And they experienced mechanisation in rural areas.(Original post by chris9772)

Re: OCR A2 Geography - F763 (Global Issues)That sounds very feasable about the development essays, how would you structure it if that was the question? Like what kind of examples would you use etc? I'm a bit stuck(Original post by KathSherratt)

Re: OCR A2 Geography - F763 (Global Issues)You don't need case study examples in Section A you won't get extra marks, some ideas though:(Original post by chrisluff)

<p> Building Codes to prevent complete failure of infrastructure, Aid like you said, Eva auction Routes in place, in Section A you should structure into 3 paragraphs, first outline briefly the issue don't be too generic, then do two paragraphs the first on short term management the second long term that should help you think of ideas

Re: OCR A2 Geography - F763 (Global Issues)I hope not - we've done no volcano case studies at all D:(Original post by Eternal Rest)

, how many sides of paper should you write for the short and long questions?
