You don't need case study examples in Section A you won't get extra marks, some ideas though:

<p> Building Codes to prevent complete failure of infrastructure, Aid like you said, Eva auction Routes in place, in Section A you should structure into 3 paragraphs, first outline briefly the issue don't be too generic, then do two paragraphs the first on short term management the second long term that should help you think of ideas
we were told that its good to back up your management strategies with currently existing strategies, because it proves your idea and shows it works.. but its not necessary :P is it really bad that my development and inequalities short answer is mostly case studies? havent a clue what to write about otherwise.

No no The management that is used in your case studies can be applied just don't be like in Japan they did this and that instead say a management strategy that may apply is bla bla which was successful in Japan and stuff like that, it backs up your point if you do that it's just the question is asking you to think up the management strategy not to draw on past events if you get me xD Good luck though!

Getting very nervous about this exam, I'm always awful in extremely long essay questions, always get in a muddle trying to work out how to lay it out

I find the development/globalisation side of geography kinda dull, so I'm kinda having trouble revising it without drifting off haha!

I have the same problem as you! I really find it hard to write stuff for an essay and have trouble laying them out! As well i really don't enjoy the human side of geography.. learning about earth hazards is much more enjoyable than learning about some policies.. :')

That sounds very feasable about the development essays, how would you structure it if that was the question? Like what kind of examples would you use etc? I'm a bit stuck
i would talk about the benefits & drawbacks of quantitative measures, as opposed to qualitative - eg the relative advantages of using GDP, improvements eg using PPP or HDI but then the disadvantages of those as well/ compared with small-scale qualitative studies.
Or the conflicting ways of defining development - like the UNDP definition vs the various models of development. I imagine a question would be something like "Discuss varying ways of defining development", but I'm just guessing!

I don't mind the section B questions, it's A I hate. I always identify a really obscure and random issue and then write myself into a corner  Does anyone have tips for these questions, especially population and resources ones?

Haha very true, volcanoes are much cooler than TNCs! I've tried condensing all my notes down into one document to read through just before the exam, might try writing loads of plans too in case that helps

    Best of luck!

I had a look through all the previous development questions, and i reckon social or political factors hindering or influencing development, may come up as one of the two essay titles. They have previously looked at 3 of the 5 factors; historical, economic and physical affects on development and inequality - this is just a guess though as one year they asked about development increasing inequalities within a country and the narrowing of the development gap.

Also i have only studied earth hazards and ecosystems - does anyone have any ideas on what might be asked on these for the 30 mark questions? Seems that no one is doing ecosystems

I think either Volcanoes or Earthquakes will be the 30 marker, the former being more likely as it's been ages since it's been on.
Not sure if it'll be about impacts, as the first one was about that. It could be about human responses to volcanoes or something like that.

What can you write about for societal changes over time influencing classification of resources?

What management case studies are there for volcanoes?

Mount Etna has tried to be managed twice both unsuccessfully last attempt 1992 'operation volcano buster' they used explosives to blast a hole in the lava tunnel and dropped large concrete blocks in too try and stem the flow. Also eldfell, Iceland water was sprayed onto lava flows for 6 months too try and divert the flow. Hope this helps a bit! Google should have more info!

Mount st Helen's is a good volcano to be compared with others, its in an area of low pop density, it was one big blast not frequent and it was predicted. A few others, chances peak, Krakatoa, mt etna, Nevado del Ruiz and mount pinatubo!

I thought the exam went ok! Section B was slightly iffy but I had a lot to talk about on section A! How did everyone find it?

Hated the Development question (Political factors), liked the Earth hazard question (Volcano one)

The ones on section A were a bit iffy, kinda waffled with some completely random strategies, I had no idea what to put

    I'll be lucky if I get a C :/

I thought the exam wasn't too bad actually, i had been dreading the development 30 marker but i was really happy it was political factors as i had some good case studies for that one, earth hazards went okay, i did it last and was rather rushed though so forgot to think about the impacts in terms of social economic and environmental and hopefully section A went okay, i wrote about a side for each answer is that enough? what did everyone else write?
