Re: OCR A2 Geography - F763 (Global Issues)
I thought the exam was ok.

The essay questions were not as horrible as I was dreading!
For the 10 marks I did Earth Hazards, Climatic Hazards and Globalisation.
I agree with everyone about the Globalisation it was horrible! I won't something about wrongful TNC advertising. I had no clue how to relate it to Geography really!
30 marks I did Earth hazards (my favourite topic) and Globalisation. I did the one about Volcanic management which I liked, but then I foolishly said Souffierie Hills was in Icealand when it's in Monesterrat. However I did mention it earlier in the righr location, still worried though! I also did the developmental gap essay.
Just the skills now. Not looking forward to those essays!

Re: OCR A2 Geography - F763 (Global Issues)
Not many people on here do Geography LOL
I did Earth Hazards, Climatics Hazards and Population and Resources (was this that North Africa had little cereal production compared to population so could lead to malnutrition???)
Then essays...
Climatic - depressions more local/anticyclones more regional
Depressions I did gale force winds (UK 1987) and said local + hurricanes (Mitch) and said relatively local
Anticyclones I did drought (Sahal) and said regional + Smog (London 1952) and said it was regional because of cancelled flights... then quickly mention fog and frosts are local at the end
Mainly agreed with statement.
Pop & Resources - reducing BR is always beneficial, discuss
I mentioned yes for overpopulated countries (China), no for underpopulated (Romania) and aging (France) then said but raising BR not always best... and mentioned immigration could be better (Poles to UK)
This sound good? -
I did the population and resources 10 marker too, and there is always more than one issue on the mark scheme and I'm sure that'll be one of them! I talked about the massive imbalance of food and people, America was producing loads compared to pop where as sub Saharan Africa were producing very little compared to population and then mentioned that lack of cereal/food would be problem like you and then mentioned ways of increasing food production in LEDCs!(Original post by Jorddds)

Re: OCR A2 Geography - F763 (Global Issues)You made it so broad why didnt I think of doing the same! Thanks though I feel more happy about it now. My management was food aid/dry farming + GM crops + transporting water from R. Nile/industrialization(Original post by jordanelouise)

No-one got above a B so it's pretty tough to say I guess you have to really link your own experiment to the question where did you go for the trip? -

Re: OCR A2 Geography - F763 (Global Issues)
How did people do?
Got a borderline C in the Global Issues paper... which meant a C overall with only 2 UMS/1 raw mark off a B, absolutely gutted
I lost a lot of interest in Geography this year though, my own fault for not keeping on top of it a little longer. Although we never did a proper mock for the human issues so I had no idea how to structure the essay well.Last edited by Jorddds; 17-08-2012 at 11:36. -

This exam went alright for me I got 102/120 but I only needed like 60 or something to get the A so quite lucky I suppose.
How was your skills aswell? -
Re: OCR A2 Geography - F763 (Global Issues)Nope costs too much although I would like to do it just to see, 3 B's would be awesome.(Original post by Hackett)

Well done thats great! I got a high C in Skills in January. 2nd joint highest at my school nobody got above C, most people did a re-take I probably should have but I cba if Im honest, since my interest was stooping in the subject (teaching from 1 of the teachers was absolute dismal).
Horrible though, if I scored what I did in Jan Id have got a B and consequently a B overall! (and most people are saying the Jan paper was so much harder)

Re: OCR A2 Geography - F763 (Global Issues)Ive just completed the course this year and after getting a B at AS and doing one re-take i ended up with an A* overall. The trick with OCR is case studies.... and knowing them really well, or at least being able to blag them a bit :P(Original post by JackJack)
I'm starting A2 geography in September. I've done 6 weeks of the course all ready. Does anyone have any tips and advice to offer me?
Global Issues Specifically, make sure you know management strategies really well. So for all 3 topic areas you are focusing on for part A have a list of issues and strategies. You will be asked to look at an article/map etc and suggest a geographical issues and appropriate management strategies. So for Physical, look at Prevention, Preparation and Emergency AID etc. For human aspects its pretty much TRADE, AID and FDI.
Then the essay questions come. Its your choice if you want to structure it by theory or case study. I was weaker at physical geography so structured by physical essay by case study. I preferred human so focused by essays on theory e.g, cumulative causation and then drew in some case study.
For Geographical Skills there are a few key points that will get you grade. Firstly you get a choice of 3 questions for section A so if you dont like the stats bit of the course - dont bother learning it as you can just answer a different question. For the essays make sure you refer constantly to YOUR research.field work. So start by saying In MY project in......we or I were aiming to.... etc. They LOVE it to be very focused on your field work so keep saying IN MY INVESTIGATION in avery other sentence haha - well you get the idea. Also Diagrams are GOLD - use them. Of course make sure they are relevant but you can actually be awarded marks for them so seriously put at least one in each essay! Also they like to see how you overcame limitations so name and shame any problems you had and how you fixed them - if its relevant to the question. From memory there are about 6 stages to an investigation and the way I revised for the exam was by using a timeline. I got A3 paper and write on a line the stages and then literally copied of the spec what we did in our investigation. Eg. suitable hypothesis so i wrote my hypothesis. Risk assessment - so write one. If you keep to the spec in this exam it shouldn't be difficult to hit the high marks.
Good Luck, if you need any more specific help just ask
Thanks, I hope so :}
Gap year first though hoping to do some charity work in Africa, put my geography to use ! Earn some money to of course
