Wait aren't we allowed to discuss the answers after 24 hours or something? Or is that only for GCSE..
only edexcel some exams which are sat in other countries, and probs IGCSE exams too
(Original post by DisturbingKand0R)
I walked out of this exam happy, reached home and started this thread, 30 posts in i almost bursted out crying
aww no, dont! the mark schemes often except more than 1 answer. I try to avoid coming on here after an exam too

Re: CHEM1 15 May 2012 AQA OFFICIAL POST EXAMdon't feel like that.. you could have all the right answers and everyone else could be wrong, none of us will know until august.. in january i used unofficial mar kschemes and in one subject i got 2 grades higher than i thought, and in another i got 2 grades lower.. so honestly don't take it to heart too much(Original post by DisturbingKand0R)

Re: CHEM1 15 May 2012 AQA OFFICIAL POST EXAMWell they must be doing them at the same time then(Original post by exclusive110)

Re: CHEM1 15 May 2012 AQA OFFICIAL POST EXAMAhh well I mentioned de-localised electrons so maybe I'll get one mark(Original post by Ben_F)
For titanium, I said that it could be bent into shapes because metals form layers held together by electrostatic forces from the delocalised electrons.

Re: CHEM1 15 May 2012 AQA OFFICIAL POST EXAMyh i hope so(Original post by Salmanftw)
yeah same story.

Re: CHEM1 15 May 2012 AQA OFFICIAL POST EXAM
I retook this exam to boost up my Jan12 A scrape.

The paper was 'okay', except for the odd few silly mistakes i.e - automatically assuming the use for the hydrocarbon is making polymers. Getting the last one mark equation completely wrong and managing to cock up drawing the functional group isomer (how many marks was that?).
Calculations were pretty straightforward I guess, it is the mass question I'm slightly unsure about. I divided the 5000cm^3 by 1x10^-6 to turn it into 5x10-3 m^3 and solved n=PV/RT to get 0.202 moles or something?
(probably went wrong here)
I looked at the equation and counted the total number of gases moles on the reactants side (??) What I recall now, is that they wanted you to work out the mass for a compound on the reactant side, and there was one mole of it, and 6 moles of other gases.
I ended up multiplying by 1/7 and wrote down the moles.
Then I calculated the mass, blah blah, got 2.01g.
(^ probably 3/5 for this question if it's wrong)
Someone answer my queries above.
Anyone got the equation?

Re: CHEM1 15 May 2012 AQA OFFICIAL POST EXAMAin't that the truth... I came on here a few years back after one of my Physics GCSE's and felt immediately disheartened. Results came back and I got an A in the exam! You can't always accept the things here for face-value(Original post by Bubbles94)

Re: CHEM1 15 May 2012 AQA OFFICIAL POST EXAMI don't remember a question like that. o_O(Original post by jakemarsden)
Could someone clarify for me please whether the question that asks how VDW forces arise i put: "Movement of electrons causes instantaneous dipoles between neighboring molecules" does anyone no if this is right? -
Re: CHEM1 15 May 2012 AQA OFFICIAL POST EXAMna they're right cus the volume was 5 moles of gas.(Original post by DisturbingKand0R)
yh i hope so
the annoying thing is i can't see why the other people are right, doesn't seem logical.
Boron was 1 mole so you did 1/5 x 0.005m^3 or whatever the values were and got the volume you were supposed to use. -
Re: CHEM1 15 May 2012 AQA OFFICIAL POST EXAMow no(Original post by Last Chance)
I don't remember a question like that. o_O

Re: CHEM1 15 May 2012 AQA OFFICIAL POST EXAMit took me a while to see it; it was only work 1 mark, don't beat yourself up about it. Unit 2 is way more important either way(Original post by Lily.K)
Oh god, silly exam pressure mistakes! I was on the same track as you with the BO3 ion needing 3 sodiums, I just panicked
