Re: C2 May 2012 Edexcel - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POSTright at the start on the first page(Original post by sophie0106)
is there an unofficial mark scheme anywhere here? -
Re: C2 May 2012 Edexcel - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POSTIt says f(-1) = 0 with no sign or substitution errors and for conclusion.(Original post by otrivine)
cause in the mark scheme for june 2011 mark scheme says f ( 1) 0 = with no sign or substitution*
errors and for conclusion.
?
Meaning the A1 will be awarded if the substitution is correct and if a conclusion is present, the M1 will be awarded for just the substitution. You will receive 1 mark for that question. -
yes(Original post by otrivine)
even if you say =0?
im sure that you need to say 'therefore f(1) = 0' or something like that.

Re: C2 May 2012 Edexcel - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POSTeven if i said = 0 ?yes cause i did sub ok then i showed that = 0(Original post by Joshmeid)

for example i did F(-2)=whatever the eq and sub = 0 -
Yes i did get 5 solutions correct. My method was written like this. I just divided it straight away without giving 2x values(Original post by Joshmeid)
Did you get all the 5 correct solutions? If your method is clearly written down such as:

Then you should be awarded the marks.

Re: C2 May 2012 Edexcel - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POST
omg easiest paper every yet i made so many stupid mistakes
for the trig one (some how) i managed to get tan2x=5 and i worked out some answers from that... does anyone think ill get any marks for that? or will it just be a big fat zero marks? -
Re: C2 May 2012 Edexcel - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POST
Do you think it matters for the differentiation question if i put the answer as 54.16 with recurring symbol? Cause thats still exact isn't it?
Also, on the integration question - i got the right answer using a different method where you subract y1 from y2 and then integrate. Its a method in the textbook and gets you the right answer. Do you think i will still get all 7 marks?
Thanks! -
Re: C2 May 2012 Edexcel - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POST
Hey, I genuinely found this paper easy, required that you learnt how to do everything that could come up. On question 8) I think I wrote down the Surface Area as: 2pix^2+4pixh, however I still got the correct answers (2.12). Also, for the trig equations question if I got to the point where you switch tanx to sinx/cosx but did not get any further right would that get 1 mark? thanks if any one can reply
-
Re: C2 May 2012 Edexcel - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POST4 or 5 out of 7, method and accuracy marks lost, expect 5, 4 if the mark scheme is strict.(Original post by rainbow1994)

Re: C2 May 2012 Edexcel - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POSTI missed 180 too I think we lose 1 mark(Original post by Spellstheend)
For the trig question I missed 180 but got the rest, will I get 4/5?
Then in the sums proof I did it all correct but used 'S' instead of 'Sn'
how many marks would that lose me?

Re: C2 May 2012 Edexcel - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POST8. b) It's a show that, you haven't shown it so you will lose 2 marks as you haven't shown the answer and you didn't substitute 'h' from part a.(Original post by Gmanscoop)

6. a) You may get one mark as you used a trig identity although you only completed the first step and the method mark may be awarded for the whole working. -
Re: C2 May 2012 Edexcel - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POSTDifferentiation: No, that will be fine.(Original post by Brainstormer)

Integration: Yes you will. -
Re: C2 May 2012 Edexcel - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POSTInteresting method, full marks as you've clearly shown how you got all the solutions, as the question asked.(Original post by Putch1)

Re: C2 May 2012 Edexcel - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POSTAbout the integration one, yes you will definitely get the marks.(Original post by Brainstormer)

For the differentiation one, i'm not 100% sure, but as long as it is equivalent I can't see why they'd mark you wrong. You may lose accuracy mark? -
Re: C2 May 2012 Edexcel - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POSTCan someone answer this please?(Original post by Hamburglar)
Guys, on question 6 part b, where you have to prove the trig equation:
I understand that Tan x = Sin x / Cos x.
However, in my working I didn't actually showed this step, and instead multiplied both sides by Cos X. I jumped to the second step basically.
Will I lose any marks for this? Very annoying if I do, because otherwise I got full marks.

Re: C2 May 2012 Edexcel - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POSTUnfortunately it will probably be 0 marks seeing as you won't get any correct solutions and the correct form was provided as a 'show that' in part a for which you could easily find solutions from.(Original post by Polo_0)

Re: C2 May 2012 Edexcel - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POSTfor trig if you get the 2 values of cos=1/5 will you get 3 marks cause i think 2 marks is sinx=0 cause is more easier?(Original post by oli_G)

Re: C2 May 2012 Edexcel - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POSTYou may lose a mark as you haven't clearly shown the trig identity (Tan x = Sin x / Cos x), although you multiplied through by cos x which suggests you do know the identity and have used it. This one depends on the examiners mood really..(Original post by Hamburglar)

Re: C2 May 2012 Edexcel - Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POST
Damn, I made a lot of mistakes out of tiredness :/
On the logs question I just "separated" the bracketed log out, turned. 2 into 3^2 and solved a pretty nasty but incorrect quadratic..
For the circle question I used the cosine rule to calculate the perimeter of the segment not the sector.
For the long division of the cubic I divided fine, but then ignored the 2x^2 and factorised it as if it was 1
On the trig, although I wrote we needed to include the values for Sin2x = 0 I left them out..
:/ any rough estimates on the marks I'd lose?Last edited by Metigue; 25-05-2012 at 11:08.
